Re: Smith 625-3 “45acp model of 1989”

Think how much better it would work with Auto Rim ammo.

Nice pick up. A .45 ACP N-frame is a revolver I want to get.

Revolver. In .44 Special In a leather holster. Channeling your inner Fudd? Surprised you didn't put dead tree carcass grips on it. Ha! That holster is for if and when I want to conceal carry it. At the ranch, it’s riding in an Uncle Mikes Flap Holster. To keep as much blood, sweat, and tears off of...

Re: Ed Brown 1911 magazines

One thing I forgot to mention is the follower has a patent number on it. Patent number corresponds with a Checkmate patent. Not saying anything, but these look a LOT like Checkmate magazines, which I hear good things about.

In a standard magazine I like Metalform or Springfield.

Screw that. I'm grilling burgers over charcoal. Like George Washington and Ben Franklin would do.

Ed Brown 1911 magazines

A while back I posted about a 1911 magazine I got with a manufacturing flaw. https://gunsandoutdoors.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=35962&hilit=Check+your+gear#p35962 Follow up: I've been running Ed Brown 8 round magazines since then, and am quite satisfied. I started my 8 round mag journey running C...

Crackheads are a bit smaller than the average human, therefore your results may be skewed.

Re: Pondering the ancient wisdom....

I question it, too. But, considering actual modern data about 9mm, the comparison with his selected. 45 ammo becomes relevant. But the comparison isn’t relevant if we don’t have his 45 data. If you're trying to disprove his data or an advocate of the .45 is discounting the 9mm data, sure. But, if b...

1911 ejector and port mod...

Can you have one without the other? Specifically, can you run an extended ejector with a GI sized ejection port? I know you normally see an extended ejector with an oversized ejection port, but does it have to be this way?

Pondering the ancient wisdom....

With relatively modern advances in 9mm ammo and Glock's pre-eminence as a sidearm, what would Col. Jeff Cooper recommend as a firearm and cartridge combo? Yes he recommended a 1911 in .45 ACP, but I remember him speaking highly of 230 gr. FMJ ball as a fight stopper 9 out of 10 times, improving to 9...

Re: .38 Special vs Long Colt

I used to shoot IDPA with a guy who ran a GP-100. Instead of using 125 gr. .38 Specials he ran hot loaded 125 gr. .38 Long Colts. Claimed he got lower standard deviations due to the smaller case (probably true but of dubious utility) and a cleaner burn with better case sealing in the cylinder (I did...

Re: .38 Special vs Long Colt

I also used manufacturer's data. They list a 158 gr. LRN at 750 fps or so. The Ballostics 101 has a nice range of data, but anyway. Federal American Eagle at 770 fps. Spicy https://www.federalpremium.com/handgun/american-eagle/american-eagle-handgun/11-AE38B.html ⁸ Remington UMC. 755 fps https://www...

Re: .38 Special vs Long Colt

The .38 Special is supposedly more powerful than the .38 Long Colt. Gun mags say so in their articles. And it is with +P loadings, buuuuuut... If you compare the original loads, one launches a 150 grn. LRN at 777 fps, the other a 158 grn. LRN at.... 755 fps. Wow. Huge step up in power. I generally ...
