This is why we need to bring back public crucifixion of criminals. It can be SO much more than just a religious icon.

Re: An interesting way to test lead hardness
A lot of guys on Castboolits talk of using "the pencil method". Pop bought a Cabine Tree tester really early on in our casting days, so we never looked further. Interesting to see it in action though. I wonder what's going to be harder to find or keep around during the Apocalypse: a purpos...

Re: Yo Bigslug. Or anyone else. 870 question.
So you’re saying….this is the way…. Mostly. I wouldn't pistol grip a Mossberg - the top-mounted safety and rear-of-trigger action release are both very ambidextrous and very accessible with the standard stock; with pistol grips, you lose that. 500 vs 590: same shotgun, different barrel mounting sys...

Re: Yo Bigslug. Or anyone else. 870 question.
Man. You suck at enabling. 🤣 Sorry bro. After wrenching on 870's since 2002, my motto has kinda become "Knowledgeable Remington shooters choose Mossberg" If all you're looking for is a behind-the-front-door / bedroom closet shotgun, and don't have any real intent to trick it out wit...

Re: Yo Bigslug. Or anyone else. 870 question.
I'd want a little more information. Better still, I'd want to get hands on and pick through them. Problem is, it's often more a question of when it was made over what's stamped on the receiver. We are after all dealing with a gun that became "tactical" by taking a duck gun and putting shor...

Re: Is It ECONOMICAL To Reload Anymore?
When I reload, cast bullets, or powder coat bullets I get left alone. That alone is worth the time spent doing it. 😆 I'll bet I wore out 2 sets of head phones and an SD card listening to "Quadrophenia" while putting some miles on the Dillon and making 45 ACP. For future reference, "M...

Re: Ok got an urge
I do not remember, was Oswald supposed to be using military ammo? I do know that with my Carcano and military ammo you are lucky to hit a 12 inch target at 50 yards. As I recall, supposedly a Winchester equivalent to the mil spec load, sort of like the "Garand safe" M2 ball repro ammo bei...

Re: Ok got an urge
Well. . .the National Match standard course for rapid fire is 10 rounds in 60 seconds for 200 yards and 70 seconds for 300 yards, with a mandated reload somewhere in the middle, and a perfect score requires results of 1 MOA or better. Oswald would have needed something in the realm of a 4 MOA and wa...

Re: How about a water balloon gun?
Challenges to man-portable: You are going to need low pressure, but high volume, and likely a long barrel to throw your high-mass water balloons with any decent speed without having the acceleration blow them up in the gun. I'm envisioning something that would have a scuba tank on your back and woul...

Re: Is It ECONOMICAL To Reload Anymore?
I guess the better question would be, "Is it economical to SHOOT anymore?" Scrounged brass and scrounged berm lead will carry you a long distance - at least on the bulk pistol stuff. But primers and powder? DAMN! I think it can be done economically. The key - probably - is to not branch ou...

Pure sacrilege. But, two dead pigs. Lever action origins: late 1850's, and tricking one out with optics, plastic furniture, or rail handguards on the modern production options is "sacrilege" Bolt action origins: at least as early as 1871; 1886 if you want to talk modern ammo, and nobody t...

Re: New .357
I like it! Forget the dot sight, get the peeps and a Blackhawk to go with it! The current sights need more contrast for my eyes, I want to try a dot on it, I have other stuff to put it on if it does not work out. That was my justification for the Marlin .357 SBL (Pic rail): I knew the iron sights o...

I've been saying "screw modernity" for years. Not sure that's the same as "embracing" it.Zsarvashere wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2026 6:10 pm Between this and the guide killing the Grizzly with a 9mm, I think a new breed of man is being defined. Re: Apparently the .270 can kill
This is just more evidence the round is good for women and children to use. We used to simply give 9mm's to the women and kids because it was an effective round they could handle. Now the grown-ass men are putting comps on their 9mms. Whatever this phenomenon is, perhaps the .270's arrive in the 19...

Pretty sure that wasn't what Tom Petty meant with those lyrics, but they fit!

Re: No Good Deal Goes Unpunished (The 2011 Koolaid)
I've got about 500 rounds through the gun now, and it's definitely a soft shooter. Not one single malfunction with 7 different mags, both OEM and MBX, so also good. I won't get it on a timer until later this summer, so we shall see. I have a feeling that the XL in particular outlived its niche sinc...

AWWWWWW YEAAAAH!! Not any terminal testing. A 405 through the spine is pretty definitive. Yep. Note that I didn't ask about bullet recovery. Until you soften those bullets down into maybe the 10-11 BHN range, you won't likely see anything in terms of meaningful deformation with thos...

NICE! Kind of considering one of those in stainless. Not having handled one in a minute - QUESTION: Is the extractor rod long enough to kick a .357 case fully clear, or if not, how much is it short by? Not quite, but if you hit it sharply they clear. Thanks! I recently looked at a 3" 686 Plus ...
