First of the year.....it's foxy

Post by JunkCollector »

I've been going by the plan and sold either 3 or 4 this year
This was a buy though....too good not to do it.

It's an Ansley H Fox XE grade
It is 12 gauge
Single trigger
26" barrels choked IC/IC

Oh well here it is.

Sweet! Need more stock and forend pics!

Double IC barrels. . .my folks and I moved out of the midwest before I really could do much hunting there, but I DID have the near pants-wetting experience of stepping on coveys of bobwhites. . .which I imagine is not unlike activating a "Bouncing Betty" antipersonnel mine.

I gotta figure that gun was made for hunting bobwhites without the benefit of a dog to locate them.

Up here it would probably be a great partridge gun.

The foreend is a beavertail

I suck at whole long gun pictures but here is one.
It has the two Ivory beads.
It also has a single selective trigger.

Would something like this be good on doves or do you use tighter chokes ?

Well, yowza!

I have a pretty evolved dislike/apathy when it comes to straight-wrist stocks, so I probably would not have tried to fight you for it, but the workmanship is still making my eyes tear up a little.

Ya dun scored!

That would be a fun gun in places like the Salton Sea where the doves are thick, on opening day before they get wise to the fact that low altitude = death. When I've hunted that area, I've run full choke with good success, but I have turned one or two into hamburger when they tried to charge me.

It would also serve pretty well in heavy cover shotgun-only zones for deer with 00 loads. The straightwall case rifle revolution seems to be taking that kind of hunting off the field, but it was a pretty common method back in the day.

Wow, again, the shops I frequent don’t ever stock stuff like that, very cool, afraid to ask what you had to sell away to get to that gun👍

Over a tank, yes. Pass shooting I tend to use M/IM.

This was from that batch they took in.
Most way out of my league.
They didn't value this one high.
I laid claim to it fast.

I'll text you OTD price lest I be called a felon

In Midwest I hunted all birds except ducks and turkeys with IC
Looks like another fine addition to the double collection. The single trigger is a plus in my book. Very nice!

One of the ones out was a 12 double.
This to me was an upgrade to it.

This one may be better than you think
I did a quick check but didn’t have the serial which has the grade but! After 1905 I believe they were marked AH Fox
prior from 1895 to 1905 they were marked Ansley H Fox
This one is worth lookin up! There was only one model with the single trigger I found.

Hi Japhy
I think this one may be around 1918
The single trigger was an add on upgrade to several of the fox graded guns.
The serial is 25084
