updated range report, ignore the previous one

Post by 12th Man »

Something went way hinky with my first range report. Hoping the administrators will remove. Let's try this again.

I finally got the my Leupold VX7 back from Leupold's repair and mounted it on the .300 BO. I also mounted the new Leupold VX-6 3-18x44 on custom Tikka 6.5 CM and made it out to the range.

Cloudy day with winds blowing 15 mph gusting over 20mph. I mounted the new Thunderbeast 7” suppressor on the 300 BO . Not the greatest setup for this as the mag really didn't fit well in my bull bag, but I made it work. If the winds weren’t blowing so hard, the groups would tighten a tad. For a pig gun at the ranch it shot just fine

Now my custom Tikka 6.5 CM shot lights out. Once I had it sighted in I switched to a new target and shot a 3-shot group. The group measured .364”

Lastly I shot a 3-shot group at 200 yards with the Tikka. I wanted to measure the drop. I was aiming for the X. My ballistic program had me right at a 4” drop. There were only two holes in the target. The one in the blue is slightly larger than the one in the white. The back stop was a new 4’ square piece of plywood. No other holes in it minus my two holes. I’ll take the group. My rifle really shot great today

Distance is not an issue, but the wind can make it interesting!

That’ll do! I’m liking that CM! Love my Hunter in that chambering. It’s really accurate and a pleasure to shoot even with hunting loads 👍👍

Good shooting!
Were the Blackout loads subsonic?
Reason I ask is that BH is looking for subsonic loads for his and wants a starting point for powders/projectiles..

No, I've given up on subsonic ammo. Since I hunt hogs with this gun, I'd shot handful with subsonic and they ended up as painful ugly deaths for the hogs. I'm not into any animal suffering. I'm shooting the Hornaday 300 BO 135 gr FTX ammo. Next time I'll take my tripod and hopefully the winds won't be howling and I can tighten the groups up a bit. Not too bad for a $220.00 upper
