Hidden history
So I'm installing a steel butt plate on a trapdoor stock, and I remove the butt plate from my TD carbine just to see how it's installed, and found this!!
I think it says:
Frank (or Jilank ) E Rooette
C M 11 Penn Camp
Columbus Ohio 1891
Finally a gun that talks to me!! Is that cool or what!!
More research to do!!

Thats an old style cursive F, the way it was taught to me in Catholic School. It’s absolutely Frank.

I think I'll be taking off a few more butt plates!!
I e mailed the Ohio historical society. I'll see if they can come up with more info!

Forends too. I found the original owner of the Stevens single shot .22 I bought for my son as his first gun scratched on to the wood forend under the barrel and the date 1920. He had just passed away and I bought the gun form his widow. It was the gentleman’s first gun too…

Very cool AL
Could it be Hank ?
Maybe caulking the letters will make them stand out better.

Provenance makes the gun cooler
