Never even considered a paper cartridge in a percussion revolver, interesting thought. As for powder and caps, I've got more than I'll use in my lifetime.
These are certainly not high volume firearms. They are however, a lot of fun to shoot.
Unfortunately percussion caps are hard to come by nowadays but I actually like the ability to make my own. It kinda adds to the fun of the hobby. I got the paper cartridge idea from youtube. It seems to be a popular thing with these guns and another thing that I think I'll enjoy sitting down and doing.

Dude you are one self sustaining madman! My bet is it will be a few weeks before we read you are machining new and improved black powder piece.
What’s the difference between a 209 shotgun primer and a percussion cap?

I dont know enough about the performance differences between the two, except for the shape and size I believe the 209 primers are supposed to be better sealing and more reliable ignition. I think they're only easily adapted to the inline muzzleloaders though.

The difference is they aren’t even remotely close to the same thing.

Spent some time with Coach Dabo Swinney's older brother Tracy, a retired LEO, who is also Clemson's, "Director of Football Security"

I went to high school with Tracy, but he was a couple of years ahead of me, but he married someone from my class and was at our reunion yesterday.
When I first met Dabo, he was the bratty little brother. Dabo's first year at my alma mater was the fall after I graduated

Knife prices have dropped down to 10,000 from 28 billion. That’s quite a deal if I do say so myself.

Now down to a reasonable 1500. Scales are green because that’s what color was in the printer for testing.

First off, that's an awesome knife. Love the green handle. You're still a cheatin bastage using a robot and all 😁

Second. I successfully made primers. The compound isn't too scary and is quite inert when mixed wet (using acetone.) Also has an unusual and distinct smell. Apparently it's the recipe that was used for WW1 munitions. So if the world goes to shìt, I'll have primers 😘

I dont feel bad about cheating.
I figure I could have made 10 knives so far in the time its taken me to get this one programmed, and I havent done **** to get this done compared to my buddy who knows WTF he is doing.

But....Skynet will catch up. The goal is zero handwork. Thats not totally doable, but close. I hope. No blade bevel grinding at least. Thats where knives are made, or made into scrap.

I actually like the blade with the z axis step-down pattern instead of being ground flush on a belt sander or however the hell it's done. Gives it some character.

Its a feature, not a bug.

I like it also though. at first the stepover was a little too great, left too much "texture." Once its bead blasted and tumbled it will be pretty awesome I think

Almost looks like a Damascus-ish pattern. You gonna sell these or just dickin around with a few? I'd be interested in one.

The answer is yes.

But heavy on the dickin around part. Ill see how the first batch goes. The machining is....mostly down. Im gonna have to phone a friend again for a tweak. Because the way it cut the bevel on the second side looks like it was programmed by a tweaker.

So machining SHOULD be easy. If this garbage steel (used hardware store stock because it was cheap to test) did as good as it did, the good stuff should be better. Finishing I dont for see any issues. Bead blast then tumble. Then heat treat. Maybe not in that order. The heat treat doesnt scare me, but it can make a nice flat knife into a banana quick fast in a hurry.

Scales shouldnt be horrible, but the design is still pending. The nice thing is that I will be able to swap scales at will. Not sure how much fun milling micarta will be, but I guess I will find out.

Jeebus, you got a DAMN good finish for some gummy 1018 from Blowes or the depot. Thatll be fantastic in a high carbon content steel. Let me know when you get it dialed in and please leave the step over finish in mine 😁

Yeah, I was shocked how well it finished. Didn’t expect that AT ALL. I even sharpened it. It slices the tip of your thumb quite nicely.

Haven’t figured it out just yet. But below $669. 😬

It’s well balanced. Don’t mind the ugly on the blade, I was grinding the tab away.

Nothing fancy, just carbon steel. Without a heat treat oven, that’s what I’m limited to using. I could send it off to be heat treated if I used a stainless , but unless you do a bunch it’s kinda spendy per blade.

Not familiar with that particular steel, but after reading about it, seems to be a good one.
Are you going to harden and temper it yourself, or are you going to have someone do it for you?

I’ll do it myself. High carbon is pretty easy to do. Get it cherry red,(non magnetic to be more precise ) quench in oil. Temper at 400-ish for a couple hours.
