It will be interesting to see how far it can be safely pushed in an AR platform. I know the book load data has a fairly large difference between gas gun and bolt gun. Bolt gun data is just shy of .243 data and is rather impressive given the size difference. Not that .243 really costs that much more to reload per round, but in theory the 6ARC should be more economical to shoot for fun.

As flexible as the AR platform has become, optimizing for the round should just be a matter of playing with port size and location (probably not to the extreme of it's own gas tube length, but why not?), and fiddling with carrier and buffer weights to sort out when and how hard the bolt unlocks and cycles.

But as far as how hard to push it - some logic in defense of the system as-is:

We've got a lot of cartridges going back as much as 140 years which can be loaded to give you a point blank trajectory on a 6 to 8 inch tall kill zone for 250 to 325 yards. You can do a lot of killin' inside that distance, and beyond that, gravity and air friction start making fools of all of them. If you don't have the inclination or capacity to become a laser-ranging, wind-doping, Coriolis-calculating stud, there's little to be gained in seeking something flatter, because you're in ballistic nerd territory either way.

After I subsidized Zee's slaying of Pig Kong with a 62 grain Barnes 5.56 load a few years ago, it became pretty clear to me that we have some damn good bullets on the market these days, and 140 grains and up isn't patently necessary. If the objective is pest control on herds of feral piggies, these intermediate autoloader cartridges with a peak usefulness of about 400 yards start to seem tantalizing, so long as you top them with a decent warhead.

The argument against of course, is that if you're just trying to fill a deer tag, the 140 year old stuff still works just fine.
