pig roasters

I you are building them from oil tanks, would you happen to have a pic or two of the inside? I happen to have a 175gal oil tank that needs a new lease on life. I have a metal screen welded to 1' square that used to cover the rear window of a pickup, and a welder that likes me sometimes.

I rented one once and have a general idea, but I didnt think to take pics of anything but the dog guarding the roaster

I haven't even started them yet. What I will be using though is two 300 gallon steam kettles-- so these are going to be massive like 600 gallons when combined. When I cut them apart, I will have 2 stainless steel inner portions, and 2 heavy steel outer portions. I will put those pairs together, then make a cut. For trailers, I got an old tow behind sign board and an old straw blower trailer to mount them on.

All of my hobbies keep getting kicked in the ass. The company I work at has made it a point of pride to not hire for a decade or so and there are 4 of us covering the area that 14 did when I started. As a bonus they dont hire support personnel either so 8 of them cover the east coast to the Mississippi. On call 13 weekends a year now with the requirement I am available and close.

So one of my hobbies is trying to figure out when I can retire...

Havent had the kayaks out this year, no time with call and shooting

I workout regularly now, 3x a week resistance and m-f 2 miles on a treadmill. I need it for skiing and for shooting.

The mid life crisis. I like to call it that because since I got it late I get to live to about 119.

Reworking furniture is a hobby of my wife's that I 'get' to participate in. This secretary desk is what I went to Pittsburgh for last week. I worked Saturday and she has it stripped most of the way. I do the gluing/clamping of cracks and use the Kreg jig to tightened up any wobbles....

Aside from the armoire everything was <$50 at yard sales. They have a big one every year from PA to IN on Rt. 30.... Lincolnway Buyway. Couple of her moms pieces came from the Habitat for Humanity Restore.

Most of my hobbies have been put on the back burner due to work the past decade. I am starting to not care what work says and take some time to do things again. The car hobby may be over until I retire, and by then it probably wont be much fun anymore. Building a motor just wont be the same thing. Fishing has just about been reduced to one charter a year. With work schedules its not easy to get time for the wife and I to even go to the DNR launch to shore fish. We did manage a couple long weekends and 9 days in the UP campering this year though. We have one more long weekend planned for October. the last few years I have told work to deal with my absence during hunting season. I try to limit it to opening week and then weekends though. Being a foreman has some huge downfalls.

Currently I have 17 years to go before I can retire. This is assuming they dont up the minimum age again though. Its already 2.5 years longer than it was supposed to be when I started this career. I plan on going as soon as I can so that I can enjoy it.

Not when you’re old and can’t enjoy it. With the laundry list of things I wish I’d have known, this is high on tbe list. Working your life for the man till you get to some made up poop age to retire is just that. poop.
Of course “regular” retirement age would be ok with me. As it is my official retirement age is death.

I have been doing more campering with the wife and woods napping with my dad. Last year we went to Colorado for pronghorn and would have gone this year but didnt draw tags. Depending on what work tries to pull I may throw the phone and computer back at them and tell them to go ahead and pull my foreman pay. As time goes on in my career my attitude toward work has changed. When I started I had the plan of working as many hours as I could for the first 10-15 years so that I didnt have to in the last 10-15. Im past that first 15 now.

As a foreman you are somewhat limited on telling the shop to pound sand if you are on an overtime job. Currently I am on a 40 hour job and have worked very little OT. Most of my OT on this job has been related to city inspector testing on the system I was responsible for getting installed. A couple years ago I was on an auto plant paint shop job and with some time off I still worked 2960.5 hours for the year. The biggest part of my pension (three different pension plans that all add up in the end) is based on hours worked. Work more, get paid more in retirement. The other two pensions are based on years and not hours. I was supposed to be sent to another job as a general foreman, but that hasnt happened yet. Didnt really want that gig anyways. That would have been a lot of OT. Pay isnt all that nice once you factor in taxes. Its still better, but you pay a lot more. OT does make it easier to max out the annuity contribution for the year though.
