Well. Science was done.
9 grains of H110 is close to the magic number. Speeds are gonna be a tad fast. So I’ll back off a little. Speaking of speeds, here’s the numbers. Trail boss first then H110.

Groups were shot at 50 yards. I’m very happy with the H110 results. And in reality the trail boss is sufficient for the purpose. But the speed isn’t there. Not sure where the pics will end up but the best group is the H110. Shot from a tripod, it wasn’t the best set up. But it tells me what I need to know. With the h110 loads I essentially have a long and pokey .45 acp.
While I wasn’t really keen on shooting a pig with it, I’m kinda curious now

Looks like the H110 is running great in the gas gun, so probably zero reason to change anything.

If you've got access to AA#9, you might give it a spin. It's been outstanding in my blown-out ".32-20-Kinda-Sorta" Martini Cadet with 130 and 150 grain bullets in the 1400-1600 fps range, and the Blackout looks to be damn near a rimless copy of what I'm shooting.

If it'll pressurize a gas tube better than H110, I can't say, but it's a slowish-burn magnum pistol powder, so I don't see why it wouldn't work.

The nice thing is my AR isn’t all that AR-ish, being it’s a straight pull bolt action. No worries of gas tubes etc.

We had a long thread going over on Castboolits about the legend of the WWII British Webley .38 S&W with a 200 grain round nose being a tumbling bullet. Since I had tried a Lyman 358430 - 195 grain round nose of basically the same shape - out of a J-frame Smith at 570 fps into FBI spec gel and had it pencil through in a perfectly straight line, I was doubtful, but a few years later I got an actual Webley and a legit clone of the MKI bullet mold and was able to test it out.

My clever plan for being able to confirm tumbling:

I slapped a layer of soda can between every jug in the stack and let fly.

Here were the cans sandwiched between jugs 2, 3, and 4:

NOT what I was expecting at all, and was really a case of SCIENCE (!) shredding what I thought was solidly grounded reasoning.

Anyway, since Chris is off deep into the Weird Weeds with this one, I'm not counting anything out.

I watched a couple of vids on the old .38 special “super police” load tossing a very heavy, long bullet at 700-ish fps. It tumbled and left a huge wound channel

I will wager that it will not be much different than this video right here. I have seen these bullets in person and they are very very pointy. So I’d wager that they are more likely to take in and catch.

My point, in thinking that they wouldn’t tumble, is that in typical live tissue depth, they wouldn’t have time to tumble.
If we consider the depth of a human/pig/deer thoracic cavity, is there enough depth to afford time to tumble? Or would they simply poke a hole?

IF it tumbled, it would be on the way out if the critter. The sloooow trail boss loads have a better chance of tumbling due to lower rotational speed.
No matter, it’s still a hard chunk of lead that at best is gonna put a .308 caliber sized hole in something. Ain’t nothing gonna get splody or blown apart when it’s hit.
Which for dillos and tree rats, bobcats or Bobs cat, is perfectly fine. “Pffff”…..THWACK” is the goal.

At a lgs, I was talking to a friend about heavy sub-sonic bullets for the blackout. A guy was listening to the heavy bullets theory and took me to task, said he used 150 gr. bullets and got around 2300 fps. (estimated, I forget the actual fps) but said the gun was completely silent and said he could hear the hammer fall. He was an older guy and I just let it go. I've heard the "silent" gun position for years, and I own three silencers and NONE is so quiet you can hear only the hammer fall.

Even with subsonic 22LR, I haven't heard a completely quiet one.
A 150gr @ 2300fps is going to have a supersonic crack irregardless of how good your silencer is.

I can get quiet enough that non gun people don't realize that what they actually heard was a gunshot.

Mine is quiet with my bolt .22, but it's still not TV quiet.

What CPJ refers to is my MK2 with a Silencerco Warlock on it. Yes, it’s quiet. Yes, you can hear the firing pin drop. Then hear the bullet impact. The difference between subsonic and supersonic is huge. That supersonic crack sucks with a suppressor, if you’re trying to be THAT quiet. CPJ, and others, shot both out of mine. When being quiet and sneaky on critters at shorter range is the game, as well as having fun, it’s hard to beat.

Perceived sound level is subjective. Environment plays a role. Being out in the wide open vs in the woods, vs inside a building. When you’re the one behind the rifle, it’s quieter than standing beside it.

Same rifle and suppressor… I’ve been 50 yards from someone else shooting a bird with it. I heard the impact of the bullet on the bird. Didn’t hear the gun.

It’s never going to be completely silent. They aren’t 100% efficient. But you can get damn quiet with the right stuff.

My goal was to get 2 bullets in the air and then hear the "ting ting" as they hit the steel at 100 yards

I haven't tried CB caps in my .22, see no reason. With sub ammo, it's quiet enough.

Try the CCI Quiet ammo. A buddy has a Henry 22 that is insanely quiet when suppressed, and that ammo you can hear the hammer drop, and the bullet punch through paper and then smack the backstop. I have a video of it, and it’s insanely quiet

Well, the Lee Longbois do the thing. Subsonic. Single-ish hole groups at 25 yards. That was their requirement. Beyond that is gravy. You can hear impact after the second shot. It’s about 300 yards away

I have some of those Aguila 510fps 22lr's. They are quieter than a Daisy bb gun when a can is attached.
