New chassis and rifle rebarrel

I got swindled, coerced, forced actually into buying a new chassis for my Ruger American Ranch. Some cork stuffer out west made me do it.
Anyway, it’s a Sharps Bros Heatseeker (dumb name) chassis. New Magpul PR stock and magpull grip. I’ll add an ARCA rail what for tripod mounting.
It’s currently a .223. But with a can to be arriving….sometime, I need a bolt gun in .300 blackout. Because, that’s why.
New barrels have gotten stupid expensive. Since I have tools and some skills, and know a guy with a bigger tool and more skills, I got a Green Mountain blank. It’s a rifled tube. Period. Needs contoured threaded and chambered. But, it was dirt ass cheap. And I enjoy that kind of stuff. And I can make it whatever length I want, up to 25”.

Got the chassis today, and just ordered the barrel.

Im curious as to how it will do in .223 form. I had a load that was around a MOA load, and simply didnt go any further with it. I was about at the limits of my eyes and scope, and the factory American stock is one step above hot garbage. Im anxious to bench this. And speaking of those loads I had.....I guess I ll be blasting through those. Or save them for the zombie pockylips. I also have 3 other flavors of factory .223 to test.

Seems to be what the majority of them are. GM makes (made, not in stock) a 7, but what I read said 8 is what is used.

Due to the French Model’s deceptive ways, I’ll eventually be ordering the. Same chassis for my Ranch Rifle. But, I’ll likely go for a fixed A2 butt.

When your nuts drop, you can bore that barrel out to a usable .308 Win chamber for an excellent barrel of use.

I haven’t even got around to posting anything on mine yet. Figure I’ll wait until I have an initial range report. Since I built two new chassis rifles, I’ll just knock them out at once.

The Ruger American Ranch is a damn handy little rifle. One of my favorites. But not tripod capable. And other stuff.

The kinda full back story.. I was on MDT’s website, minding my own business, buying a stupid expensive magazine for my Howa mini action 6ARC. I was curious about a chassis for the RAR. They don’t make one for the ranch. So, jackassery ensued and I was shown the Sharps Bros chassis. I was a victim! I was forced to be the Guinea pig… Then, used the force to reverse enable..

There are other chassis out there for the RAR. But they pretty much all convert it to AICS mags. The Sharps chassis retains the AR mags. That, and having a bridge on top of the forend were the deciding factors for me.

We should probably do some looking before committing to an A2 stock for the Sharps chassis. I looked at possibly taking the one of my 450 Bushmaster to swap over. Problem is, the A2 stock has the little oval shaped nub that goes into the oval shaped hole in the back of an AR receiver. The chassis doesn’t have that. I’m sure it could be ground off. But you’d end up with 1/2” or so of the stock hanging down below the bottom of the chassis. And I’m not sure if the stock would try to rotate without that nub being stuck inside a hole…

Side note, I’m really digging the Magpul PR stock. It is a bit wiggly, but I know a guy. Making it not wiggle is easy. Making it not wiggle and still be adjustable isn’t as easy.

I'm not much into chassis stocks generally but that one really doesn't offend me
As for bolt action 300 B.O's well i'm all for them. Elk Creek has one I've shoot and it's a hoot and a half! I have been contemplating a Ruger American gen II so chambered. It hasn't found its way up the priority list yet but probably will some day.

I'm gonna be living vicariously through this one - no suppressors in California. I've always had a fascination with the WWII Delisle Carbine - - an unholy Frankenstein's monsters of a 1911 magazine and integrally-suppressed .45 (Thompson??) barrel screwed onto an SMLE action. This .300BO boltgun just seems like the logical growth of the concept.

Accurate Molds has a couple of designs that are specifically labeled for the B.O., and quite a few in the 240-260 grain range that are most likely intended for it. Some plain base, some gas check, some grease groove, some tumble lube, some smooth for powder coating. All of them with an ugly blunt nose that should thump a bit harder than your pointy "lipstick" bullets.

LONG noses on those puppies though, and I'd want to make damn sure whatever I cast was going to chamber without jamming up. If you're up for some truly mad science, chamber-slugging / pound casting ain't that hard. Pour a fired case full of pure lead about halfway up the neck. Let it cool, then chamber it. Next, take one of your lipstick bullets cast of pure lead and pound it down the barrel pointy-end first with a steel rod (quarter inch or whatever they sell that's close) strategically wrapped in masking tape to fit snug at the ramming end and along its length to protect the bore and crown. Thump it till it bottoms out and your hammer bounces off the rod. You'll probably need a rubber mallet to open the bolt handle and may need to tap your "ramrod" gently to extract the round, but you'll have a perfect impression of your throat, leade, and start of bore to measure for designing and ordering a custom mold from Accurate. I don't know if Tom at Accurate will design a mold for you off a chamber slug you send to him, but Veral Smith at LBT used to before his shop burned, which is what I did for the first mold for my Martini Cadet.
