Bucket list gun.

Post by fisheadgib »

I've been wanting a Contender in 7-30 waters for around 40 years and I finally got around to it. Won an auction on GunBroker for the frame, got a 14"MGM barrel, had Tony's make the grip and forearm, then had a local gunsmith fix a few minor issues with the frame. (That's what happens when you get an "as is" part cheap on line.) Fireformed 35 cases over the weekend and have 15 more to go. I haven't measured the trigger but it feels like about a pound. It fits my hand well and I'm anxious to start working up a hunting load.

Very NICE!! I love the Contender and they can have excellent triggers with some adjustment.
No experience with the cartridge. But, I’ve been pleased with all my MGM Barrels.
Congrats on a good find and scratching an itch.
Look forwards to your load development! Keep us posted.

It is always fun getting something you wanted for a long time and making it your own.
Well done

Thanks y'all, I'm really happy with the way it turned out and now that I have all 49 cases (crushed one in the press) fireformed, I'm gonna put together a 120gr deer hunting load. I formed the cases with some 150gr bullets that I had and the recoil wasn't bad. The trigger measured 2 lbs so I'm leaving that alone and the scope is a 2.5x8 Weaver.

That is one cool gun!!! In a chambering I’ve always been rather curious about. Sure winner 👍🏻👍🏻

I hadn't thought about that, but I own three of the spinoffs now. This, 30-30, and .375win.
