Norinco Jw-15
Norinco Jw-15
I was at the shop before work today and happened to see a Norinco JW-15 22rl rifle. From what I can tell it’s a copy of a CZ 452, and I’m all in for a CZ! Im going to take a closer look at it in a few days. We shall see.

I really like mine. It’s their mini-Mauser and I think it was our resident Kiwi who told me to grab it quickly because they are fine shooters and he was right.

Buy it, you wont regret it. I have 2...One has a 16" barrel the other has a 20" tube. The longer one will put 5 shots into one ragged hole at 70m when I do my part.....If it has a wooden stock, carve the barrel channel out so that the stock doesnt touch metal....I did mine cos when I got it I found there was too much pressure on the metal.
The trigger is a bit rough and heavy.....I replaced my trigger spring in the field with one I took out of a bic ballpoint pen....works well and breaks with the slightest pressure....................
.
If you need any more redneck ideas for it, let me know.

I sounds like sage advise. I need another 22 like the ocean needs more salt, but what the heck, why not!Orchidman wrote: ↑Sat Aug 17, 2024 5:50 am Buy it, you wont regret it. Re: Norinco Jw-15
Just in case you are wavering....
CZ bought out BRNO in 2004.
Bloodhound owns a high end heavy barreled BRNO that he bought in the late 80's. I bought my whippy thin pencil barreled Norinco in the early 80's.
It was a constant source of friendly rivalry between us.....as both rifles shot extremely small groups and rabbit and possum shooting was a hoot when we went out together. He called my rifle "That cheap Chinese Knockoff" while I called his " that overpriced, ego stroking, name branded" shooter.
We decided to end the question of which was the better rifle back in the early 2000's and one day at the range we set a target up at 70metres to test each rifle. The test consisted of each of us shooting a 10 shot group with our own rifles, then swapping and shooting a second 10 shot group with each others rifle. We then measured each of the 4 groups with a micrometer to see which rifle was the most accurate.
The Norinco won the competition with 2 groups that measured 1/2" less than the BRNO which gave me bragging rights to this day......
What did piss me off, was that the group he shot with my rifle was smaller than the group I shot with his rifle and that became the next source of much rivalry...( In my defense, BH was a small bore competitive shooter that had represented NZ at both the Commonwealth and Olympic games in his early days)
Fast forward to 2016. An LGS not far from him had a used JW15 on its shelf which he had looked at on one of his numerous visits and they wanted $300 for. He kept ragging me about it until one day when passing I called in to have a look. The owner showed me the rifle which was sitting in a pile of other second hand guns........I picked it up and saw the string tag had $80 on it....(the 2 rifles either side had $300 string tags on)...so I bought it.
Called in at his place on my way home to show him and wind him up, handed him the rifle with the price tag still on it and he looked it over. When he saw the price tag he thought it was a wind up....so he pulls out his ph, rings the shop to confirm it only cost $80. He gets off the ph, swears at me...then wouldnt hand the rifle back......pulls out his wallet takes $80 out, throws it on the front seat of my car and walked away saying that he would have bought it if he had not looked at the wrong price tag.
It shot just as accurately as my JW on the next trip to the range!!!
He also replaced the trigger spring with one from a Bic Pen...

Re: Norinco Jw-15
That is a great story!! You have thoroughly convinced me to get it. What ammo were you shooting?

Ha! To have friends good enough to walk off with your new rifle is a blessing

Re: Norinco Jw-15
I’ve watched a few YouTube videos of kiwis shooting the “JW fiddeen” with a mixed bag. One blood was cycling the bolt with his thumb and index finger and pulling the trigger with his middle fingers while holding the bolt! I wonder why he couldn’t shoot it as good as his CZ…..that said a synthetic version told be cool.

Mine shoots cheapass Remington Thunderbolts into a ragged hole.
Re: Norinco Jw-15
I went back today and gave it a serious going over. It’s a nice little rifle! It’s going to be fun. The stock is a nice straight grain peice of what looks like walnut with a decent finish. It has a grip cap ….not a bad looking gun!

Hard to beat at that price.
Re: Norinco Jw-15
Awesome. Look forward to a range report.
Re: Norinco Jw-15
Just remember, the correct number of .22 rimfire rifles to own is "obscene". If you aren't at "obscene", then you aren't done yet.
My 13 year LGS career started in 1992. We got the huge numbers of Norinco SKS and AK variants, and I saw the tail end of their "MODEL OF THE U.S. ARMY" 1911's, but I think I missed the JW-15's - not really having a clear recollection of them.
We DID get a run of Romanian military trainers that were similar - chromed bores and multi-leaf folding rear sights as I recall. Having scored one of the early CZ-452 military trainers with an employee discount for about $150 (got to pick and choose the best test target too), I felt pretty much set at the time. Wish I had either of the others now.
