Tomahawks?
Re: Tomahawks?
Looks like they don’t make the one I used to have anymore. This one is a full tang, which is better than what I had.

Cannon.......

And a Tomahawk....

I had to find pics. Mine are all lost into the great void. i threw the tomahawk at a tree behind the house so many times, I almost chopped it down.

Re: Tomahawks?
But can I get one in a ball peen?
Re: Tomahawks?
Um....I like throwing horse shoes, built my own corn hole set, and think throwing a tomahawk would be fun competition with a buddy. "Hold my beer...." I just wouldn't spend $500 on a camping tool.
Re: Tomahawks?
I'm sure those $500 are "tactical"

Yep, just like some folks would never spend $50,000 on a car, or $1,000 on a gun, or $2,000 on a camera, or $1,000 on a suit, (insert any expenditure here)...
Everyone has their own taste, priorities and budget, but I always wonder why humans feel so compelled to put down other's just because they don't make sense or match ours.

Re: Tomahawks?
Thanks Wambli! Spend your money where you want, I'm glad for you if you have it. I've never had it to spend but, I demand quality! I reload so I can afford to shoot more and I love the science. I just bought my first new car a year ago, 30,000 cash. The scope on my LDR cost more than any gun I own. I don't own a camera, I have a phone, I have no need for a suit! None of my guns are junk. My rifles shoot sub MOA and everything I own fills a niche, I'm selling off what doesn't. I love quality and admire beautiful guns, I'll just never own one. Oh I do own a nice astronomical telescope.
This conversation bring to mind a web site I visited and quit. After building a TC Hawkin rifle, the kid gave me a Kentucky rifle kit. I was looking for good load data and asked about power belts. You would have thought I'd bad talked their mother! This bunch of Jeremiah Johnson wanabe's couldn't understand, all I want to do is shoot more deer for the freezer!
I wonder if I could throw a $500 balance tomahawk better than a $100 camp ax? You by one, and I'll supply the "good" beer.
I'm a simple kind of man and find joy in everything.

I always wonder why humans feel compelled to put down others just because their BIL says they a “bunch of flaming urban snowflakes” without ever even meeting one of them.

They probably do and I couldn’t care less. As I care little about anyone else’s opinion of what I do or am. Total apathy of other folks that mean nothing to me is a blessing since I don’t have to seek their or anyone else’s approving nod.CPJ 2.0 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 10:25 pmWambli Ska wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 9:15 pm Yep, just like some folks would never spend $50,000 on a car, or $1,000 on a gun, or $2,000 on a camera, or $1,000 on a suit, (insert any expenditure here)...

And, I didn’t put them down for what they own. Just said their not my crowd for who they are. I don’t go into gay bars either or attend services at a Mooney Church. Don’t care for any of them or care if they are throwing $1,000 tomahawks and driving Lamborghinis. If they are, good for them. Everyone should strive to make themselves happy.

Hard pass...
As far as tomahawks being trendy, I blame Jack Carr and his overt product placement.... errr impeccable attention to detail... for tacticool tomahawks becoming trendy.

Fuds need tomahawks too.Japhy wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 8:30 pm What is the attraction of all the $500 tomahawks?
I cannot think of what use I would find for one,
@$300 - $500 I sure as hell am not going to throw it at anything, and at 16-20 in in length it isnt going to be an EDC.
high end knife makers are building them from intricately machined high grade steel and if the latest hawks were not selling they would not be building them.

I should have been clearer. That is the uniform and drink of choice of the fully emasculated males and their corresponding “impossible to tell the biological sex” companions in the city I used to live near before I scooted out of the time zone forever.
And I have nothing against throwing axes, knives, tomahawks, darts or anything else for fun. I can see the appeal (through not the benefit) of such skill, and as soon as I find the right crowd here I might just give it a whirl with whatever equipment they will lend or rent for the purpose. But back east it was just highly unappealing at the local joints knowing the expected clientele and confirmed by my BIL. On top of that drug use was rampant amongst this crowd and the thought of throwing sharp things next to a high-as-a-kite dweeb is at best unnerving.
And, I love many GOOD craft beers, but the same town seems to have a “brewery” every 10 feet and to be kind they ran out of good recipes years ago, and by the time I left all that was expected of you was to gladly fork over $18 for over-alcoholed pints of Unicorn Cotton Candy Farts “beer” aged for 10 months in the buttholes of Nigerian virgins. Most of what I tasted was almost undrinkable, as well as many of the $20+ made up cucumber slime or some other barf tasting cocktails all the new rage of “mixologists” in town served.

I must have missed the part where others were talking crap about people buying high end stuff. I just choose cheaper because I won't cry if it gets damaged and I can buy multiples.

Re: Tomahawks?
And that is sound logic too. Again it all depends on your personal thought processes and comfort level spending cash on any particular item or class of items. I know folks that need high end tools because if their work or needs perceived or real. Other get by splendidly on the Harbor Freight stuff. I bought two of their small chop saws expecting one to burn out at some point. Two years and a lot of use later I’m still waiting for the first one to dieJustsomedude wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 3:40 am I must have missed the part where others were talking crap about people buying high end stuff. Re: Tomahawks?
I a minimalist and try not to accumulate. I also do not have a concise definition of the word quality. I really detest expensive stuff that is not durable, reliable, has ANY superfluous parts, or I don’t find useful. I have no tomahawks, a few guns I shoot a few times a week that shoot better than I do and haven’t broken down after tens of thousands of rounds. I shoot handguns because I’m still improving albeit slower than a couple years ago. It’s kind of like yoga

I agree 100% with those 2 points. With one qualifier for myself on point 1. I detest stuff that does not meet my needs or quality standards, regardless of price point. But I also know that my rules belong to me and me alone as you state well on your second point.

Re: Tomahawks?
I'm in favor of tomahawks, I have used one for years. I dont throw any tools unless I am frustrated
, but I have a cold steel trail hawk that has never flown through the air. I wouldnt mind getting a higher quality of something similar. Its OK, steel seems a little meh, still works. It is half the weight of a hatchet and does everything you need to do and a lot that you can learn to do. The "tacticool" hawks, meh at best. It wont do anything a wood handled one will, is heavier and just kind of silly IMHO
Re: Tomahawks?
I suppose a throwing tomahawk would make it more interesting when one gets his panties in a wad and throws ones toys out of the cot...
Our Aussie friends across the ditch experimented with something similar by attaching a tomahawk style head to a boomerang........resulting in a lot of guys being called lefty.

Re: Tomahawks?
This has gotten really good! There are some things you should really try at least once!
I've always wanted to touch off one of those little cannons!
I tried to hit a golf ball with a driver once, after the third miss the club went in the water.
I'd like to throw a tomahawk, at least it won't go far when I miss.
I helped my son build a tribuchet that could launch a 16 oz beer can for 150 feet with a really high arch. That was a blast! "Geme that beer and watch this!" It was supposed to be his school project. We gave it to a bunch of sword swinging knights, think of the Renaissance Fair.
