Hornady SBR ammo?

Post by GrapeApe »

Hornady sells 2 5.56 "75gr Interlock" SBR rounds. 1 in their "Black" line
https://www.hornady.com/ammunition/rifl ... r-black#!/

and 1 in their TAP LE line
https://www.hornadyle.com/rifle-ammunit ... tap-sbr#!/

Honestly, I suspect it's the same ammo in a different box. They use exact same ad copy and if you compare the ballistics, the Black Lines' are a perfect match for the TAP load's from the 11.5" test barrel.

Anyone tried this ammo in anything?
I have a 200 of the projectiles (seconds) and am thinking about trying a "semi duplicate" load with a fast powder like H322 or Ramshot Exterminator.

On the LE side, their test bed for the Gel tests delivered 2201fps and the bullet "passed" all of the FBI protocols. with penetrations ranging from 15.25" through auto glass to 17.25" through wallboard with expansions from 0.32" through auto glass to 0.52" through wallboard.

I might swap my 10.5" 5.56 and 8.5" 300 BO uppers if I can get a velocity of 2200+ from that 10.5", for HD duty. I have sealant that will be used for the "long term" ammo.

Experience or thoughts about the ammo or my plan???

If I can get a 110 grain 308 bullet going 2200 fps from a blackout in a short barrel that’s what I would do. There is one that detests the 300BO here but it is a useful cartridge and works well within its limitations. A frangible varmint bullet wouldn’t over penetrate but dumps All its energy into the target.

At 300bo velocities, the 110 Vmaxes hold together better than you'd think
