A Highstandard double 9

Post by JunkCollector »

Over the years I've seen some of these and various other highstandard revolvers.
All happened to be blued and I never had the inkling to pull the trigger on them.

I think it was the nickel and blued sights or just the general feel and aim but I decided I'll pull the trigger on this one.
Should be fun for me and my young shooting buddies to try at least.

Double action....OK That's interesting. High Standard....at least you live up to your handle.

I've always been a fan of their bottom feeders.
We take them out often

I like old HS rimfire revolvers. They were never as “refined”, for lack of a better word, as their S&W contemporaries but they were usually interesting designs like this one and well made. Lots of those gathered many a mile in old pickups as “truck guns”.

I love the fact this one has a swing out cylinder and a Colt SA style grip and extractor. Cool find!!!!!

First .22 pistol I ever shot, except blued, never seen a nickled one.

The colt SA look and feel definitely influenced me.

And the Ruger Single-Six type drift adjustable rear sight is also a cool design feature. Like others have said I’ve never seen one in nickel either. Really neat find but then again, you’re the master at it 😎👍

Don't think I ever held one. Is it beefier (larger/heavier) than a Single Six?

Almost today.....think I'm shooting for tomorrow morning.
I think I have speedloaders for an H&R 999 and wondering if they may work on this.

.I haven't played with single sixes enough to compare.
I guess the frame on these is aluminum..
Seems pretty beefy to me size wise....maybe I can pull out a vaquero and compare the size.

My friend at one time had one. I barely remember it and don't think I ever fired it. And, trivia note, this was the type of pistol Aileene Wuornos used to kill 8 men in Florida for which she got the needle.

Here it is next to the vaquero.
The vaquero is an early heavy frame one in 45 colt (what else) so I was a bit surprised at the closeness of size.
.oh the 999 speedloader does work albeit a bit clumsily.

I wasn't sure how it ejected and it's actually very effective..
What looks like the pin that would hold the cylinder in on a normal single action pulls towards the muzzle to open then works like a S&W ejector rod to pop out the empties

I didn't see that they were problematic.

The internals are rather delicate, so don't abuse it. Just common sense stuff. IF you have to replace parts, it takes four hands with tiny fingers!!
