Opinel “shape your own handle” model knife.
Got it as a gift, finally got around to somewhat shaping it. It’s main purpose is cutting powder coat tape on machining fixtures, and as such I shaped the arse end to serve as a burnishing tool what for smoothing out the tape. It also serves as a general shop knife. It never gets closed because it’s a slow, stupid design that is good at getting your feeners sliced.
BUT! The steel takes a wicked edge and is easy to sharpen.

I have been trying not to get one of those Opinel knives for a while. I find the locking/ folding mechanism ridiculous.
But I still want one.

I have an Opinel... somewhere.
I'm not really upset I can't find it. It's a "meh" knife. It cuts, the locking mechanism is so-so at best, and I'm just not impressed with the knife. I'd rather carry my Buck 110 folder than the Opinel. But, for those who like them, have at it.

Re: Blades!!! What have you got handy…
Just yesterday I mentioned to my wife that I have been carrying a Swiss Army knife pretty much every day since I was 16 years old and my Mom brought me one back from a trip to Switzerland. But for the most part all I use it for is the scissors and the screwdrivers.
So, yesterday she bought me this:
A Gerber Armbar Drive.
Very similar size to the SAK I’ve been carrying lately (my original one is retired and will be passed to my kid when he turns 16), but without all the extra stuff I never use.
I’ll carry it the next few days and see if this will work

You guys who carry SAKs... I find the knife blade steel to be lacking. Similar experiences? Same thing with a Leatherman: tool's good, knife blade sucks to where I just carry a folder to do actual cutting.

Honestly, I almost never use the main blade on the SAK. The little utility blade sometimes get used, but for small things around people who might freak if I deploy a tactical blade or an auto when opening an envelope.

Oldie, vintage Russell Green River knife. I have an old Lamson forged fork and I wanted a companion knife for carving big pieces of meat. The blade on this sucker is about 12” long and razor sharp. Makes perfectly slicing a roast an easy task. No clue what the letters on the handle mean and Google is no help.

Well crap!!
Lost another knife at the ranch yesterday. Pulled out of my left pocket somehow. But alas, no tears. It was an inexpensive but useful Kershaw.

I’m sorry, did we allow the word “need” to crawl into our vocabulary just because it’s a new address?!?!?!?!?

I need a new .308 semi auto
I need a 10mm (double stack of course)
I need to get my Ruger MK II drilled and tapped for a rail
I need a new press and dies to load .308, 10mm, and 45
I need a new high end .45

Re: Blades!!! What have you got handy…
I've got all of that except the .308 and 10mm dies, and my 10mm isn't a double stack, it's a Legion. BTW, I'm not going to put a rail on my MK III or IV. I don't want for anything...Japhy wrote: ↑Mon Jul 10, 2023 3:58 amButWambli Ska wrote: ↑Sun Jul 09, 2023 12:20 pm I’m sorry, did we allow the word “need” to crawl into our vocabulary just because it’s a new address?!?!?!?!?
