Range Cart
Range Cart
I have been thinking about procuring a range cart. The range i frequent, the firing line is about 150 yards from the parking area. Carrying two rifles, ammo, front rest, rear bag, and all the other stuff gets heavy. Does anyone have one they purchased or built themselves that they could share? My searching tonourchase is showing prices 300.00 to 500.00 and more. Much too expensive for a retired guy.

This is something to look at…

Hire a Sherpa, their out of work this time of year
When my dad was doing cowboy shooting stuff he used a modified 2 wheel dolly. built a box on the bottom for ammo and such and had rifle racks on top of the box for 4 rifles. Bungee's held everything in place.

If cost is a major concern. I know where you can get one for just a quarter!

Some of those big wheeled beach wagons are under $100.
What range are you going to?

Re: Range Cart
I used a collapsible beach cart from Wal-Mart, works great. A lot of 3-gun and Hi-Power shooters also buy used strollers on Craigslist or FB Marketplace and attach long gun racks meant for ATVs, and sometimes gut out the interior canvas and add more purposeful storage.

Re: Range Cart
I built a sporting clays cart for my ‘son’ and I to use at the course, using a dog stroller from Amazon and some bolt-on gun racks from eBay. It worked great, until it didn’t. After six months of good use, the front wheel collapsed from the weight of two doubles and two cases of shells.
We didn’t account for the weight factor; apparently Fifi and her treats weigh a lot less…

Re: Range Cart
Back in the 80s & 90s several of us shooting NRA X the course picked up some golf caddies/carts (the type one pulls) and modified them to suit our needs, mine would carry an M-1 , AR-15,100 round ammo boxes, shooting mat , spotting scope, range box/bag, cleaning rods and misc. gear and a coat rack/hook, if your interested you can find them used at thrift stores and pawn shops fairly cheap.

Re: Range Cart
If you are fairly handy, look for some plans of the carts cowboy action shooters use. I'm pretty sure they are mostly homemade. They will handle about four long arms and have a box on the bottom for ammo and accessories.

Some great ideas for me to look into Thanks everyone
Re: Range Cart
Excuse me, but the more I thought about your post, I wondered why your range would configure a parking lot 150 yds. from the firing line. It's almost like they don't really want you there.

Re: Range Cart
Thr range is multi use.
Even with and to the left is a multi station shotgun range, handguns tonthe right and beyond there is the rifle range.
They are currently working on a long range rifle station. One person said 500 yards the lady up front said they are trying to get cleared for 700.
