Dammit!!! I need to stop looking in Gun Stores.

Post by Wambli Ska »

I’ve GOT to stop going into gun stores… or looking at messages from my “friends” 🤬

Today I found a Ruger Redhawk with a 5.5” barrel (one of my favorite lengths) chambered in.357 Mag, and someone was nice enough to have already installed Sambar Stag grips on it saving me about $4-500!

In the ones chambered In the puny .357 Mag the cylinder has 8 chambers taking advantage of the AMPLE metal. I think I want to play with Redhawk ONLY.357 loads with heavy for caliber bullets like 180+ grain and see where that takes me. Probably feels like shooting a .38 in this beast. In original box with all paperwork.

Here she is! She’ll be home tomorrow.

It would at least be on layaway at that price if I came across it.

I’ve been looking at this gun for weeks but I kept thinking “I just bought a Pre-27! Do I need another big frame .357 mag? “. Hell I’m not even a big fan of the .357, preferring the .4X bores by a long shot. But I made the mistake of asking to see it today and that’s all she wrote…

Seems like just yesterday you had no money for an 1885 :o I do have some 190gr GC SWC's that I could probably spare for science.

Science is good!!! 😊

The problem is that having the same gun in 38-55 makes it to tough to pair it with a 30-30. But ask Mr. Elk creek what has my attention next and you’ll understand 🤭

NICE! That stag looks a little less like ass than most. Like a set of factory second/blem discount ivories.

The trick to really stomping on the .357 Mag gas pedal is going to be choosing a bullet that put as much it's weight as possible forward of the case mouth. I gotta do some homework on that for ya. My quick and easy reference for the various brand/model cylinder lengths was LBT's website, but Veral Smith recently passed away after a long string of personal tragedies - health and his shop burning down - so much of that resource has faded.

Elmer Keith's 358429 (nominally 173 grains) was originally designed for the Heavy Duty .38 Special loads. Usually, you have to seat it deep and crimp over the front driving band for its long nose to clear the front of most cylinders when using .357 brass, but a Redhawk might have enough room.

At any rate, I'll spend some time this evening researching to help your SIL pick out a mold.

Edit to add: as for "I already bought a Pre-27", with a Redhawk (or even a GP-100) in the stable, you won't be tempted to run the super high octane aviation gas in your irreplaceable classic car. Ya done good.
WWJMBD?

I believe we should stand on Ceremony. . . while our friends handcuff the sanctimonious little prick and take him away.

Best looking revolver ever made. 👍

I think the 8 shot would mess with my head. I’m used to only 6. (That’s what she said)

Thankfully they didn’t gay it up like Smith did.

If Elton John and Freddy Mercury were sprinkling tiny purple dongs down the aisle at the wedding of Ellen Dengenerous and Rosie ODonnel it wouldn’t be more gay than S&W engraving “357 mag eight times” on the side of the barrel. 🤣

There is nothing wrong with up-grading, my problem is letting go with what I already have.
Only gun I have let go of in years was to give grandson one of my mosins.
Nice looking revolver!
