25-20 winchester
25-20 winchester
I know a couple of you have 25-20 rifles and am wondering if any have tried making cases from 32-20? Good friend of mine inherited a nice Winchester 92 so chambered and I'd like to help him be able to put a few rounds down range. Thoughts?

Re: 25-20 winchester
I have one but managed to score enough brass that I haven’t tied making any. That is one neat round that I would love it it came back in popularity.
Re: 25-20 winchester
I've tried and it was an effort in futility!! The cases would always end up wrinkled!! I ruined a lot a .32-20 cases!! I have all the proper sizing dies, too, and no luck!! I've since scored a lot of brass.
The only step I didn't try was annealing the case first!! But that step is supposed to be unnecessary.
Ammo is up around $120!! I found brass at ET Brass.
Mine is an 1894 Marlin and it's become one of my range favorites! Also have a Model 23 Savage in .25-20.

Annealing, lube, and working slowly through in multiple trips into the dies seems to be the order of the day.

Thanks all. I'm going to order a set of dies and give it a try with the annealing done first and see what happens. Worst case he has to pony up for a factory box I can reload after.

This is why I am not interested in the older rimmed cartridges. The rifles always catch my eye buy the chamberings don't.
I just looked up Starline brass. They have 32-20 brass, but there is a caveat "*The SAAMI spec for .25-20 & .218 Bee is smaller at the base than the .32-20 which can cause clearance issues on some rifles."
I just searched the net for an acquaintance of mine that was manufacturing a line of cartridges based on the 30 carbine case. His line started at 17 cal. and went up to 25 cal. The last few times I saw him, he was in declining health, so he probably closed up shop. He marketed dies to form and load the cartridges. He thought he had a deal with Hornady to produce his cartridges, but they dropped out at the last minute.
Anyway my point is, if you can form a 30 carbine case from 17 to 25 cal. there should be an easier way to form 32-20 to 25-20. edited to add another link http://www.surestrikesystem.com/docs/Ga ... orming.pdf

If you form cases without annealing, you’re asking for trouble.

Can't you just buy some ammo cheap ?
I'd spare some brass to help a friend.

HA!!!!!!! You’re the only guy on earth that can find stuff like that.
I found two boxes for $50 each and scooped them up and someone pointed me to some brass and I pulled the trigger fast. Such a shame that a really neat cartridge like that is not on shelves while we continue to design and fill up gun store shelves with useless answers to non-problems.

Yeah , stuff like that does not exist anywhere but in your domain. If you have a few cases to spare I'd be forever in your debt, not that I'm not already!
This guy is one of my very best friends back in Illinois who inherited a pretty sweet 92 when his dad passed. If I load him 20 rounds it's probably a lifetime supply.
