Ruger 10/22 vs Ground Squirrel
Ruger 10/22 vs Ground Squirrel
It was .22lr day at the ranch.
Sighted in my Charger Pistol with the new BX-Trigger. Three rounds on a tiny pink dot. Unfortunately, I didn’t wait for the steel to completely stop swinging after shots. Impatient.
Then, I sighted in one of my 10/22s with a new Magpul Hunter stock I got from SS3. Middle group is three rounds of 40gr SVRN. Left group is three with the 40gr CCI-Frag. Didn’t like them as much. But, the RN will work on small edibles and the Frag will work for larger predators.
Then, it was time to go get dinner. Ground squirrels are used to me feeding the deer every evening and they come running out as I drive by in the Kubota. They make their dens under the road and the erosion destroys the asphalt. I periodically make a meal of them.
So, to test the rifle, I fed then circled back. Waited for one to grab a piece of corn and sit up. Placed the round through the head at a tad over 25yrds. Took it to the barn for Manly “Meal Prep”. Not the crap Gucci dudes have someone else make for them. A well fed squirrel with a layer of fat.
Heat, liver, and kidneys to boot!
Going in the griddle tomorrow.

I don’t know why this doubled. Please delet one of the threads.

Coyotes and raptors were giving you the stinkeye from the fence line, stealing a perfectly good meal from them

Re: Ruger 10/22 vs Ground Squirrel
Several years ago, JerryBobCo and I took our 22LRs with us on a pdog shoot. Mine was a 10/22T with a 4-12X Leupold atop. It would drop an entire 50 count box of decent ammo into a dime at 50 yards. And it did pretty good at 100 yards. So I met this pdog that morning at 110 yards. "Easy pickings". After I'd emptied the first 10 round mag at him without him even flinching, I stuffed in another. On the 19th shot I finally got his attention. I haven't fired that rifle since. The wind here is tough on 22 rimfires.

Nice shooting as usual.
I hope I never get that hungry.

I'm having strange visions of what the hors d'oevres trays must have looked like at your wedding reception...

Well, I was wearing a tie with pigs on it and my best man had one with cows.

The different colored rings on that rifle are very troubling...

Zee - what height rings and what size objective is that on the rifle?
Signed, guy who might be buying a new scope and rings for similar setup.

Ha!
The rings are Leupold Medium. The objective I’d have to figure out. Don’t know it off hand and Nikon is out of the scope business.

Re: Ruger 10/22 vs Ground Squirrel
Thanks. I'm looking at a 50mm objective and thinking medium rings. Might be tight...
Re: Ruger 10/22 vs Ground Squirrel
Yeah, I promise it ain’t 50mm.
