Re: Any pipe smokers here? and cigar smokers too 😁
Once upon a time I would partake in a light cigar occasionally. However a few years ago in a place far away, a friend of mine gave me one. I nearly threw up after the first puff. I haven't touched tobacco since then.
This is my millennial showing up loud and clear, but I always preferred hookah anyway.

Cigars?
My go to, not too expensive is a well rested Perdomo Lot23. My favorite? Wanderlust by RoMa Craft. Only sold in Europe. Have a stock of Oliva, Perdron, a couple Opus X that some say can't be beat. I'm not one of them.
Another all time favorite is a Uncle Lee by Room 101.
Through trading, gifts and sales, I have a couple humidors, a cooler, and several Tupperware containers full with Boveda Packets to keep a level humidity.

Love Acids and your Romeo y Julieta recommendation is spot on. Don’t know Tatiana, will add to the list of cigars to try!Justsomedude wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 10:37 pm Cigars.

Arturo Fuentes were my go to cigar for a loooooooong time! I don’t think those guys can make a bad cigar. Their Hemingways are one of the easiest cigar choices for me. Don’t know Bobalu, yet another one to try. Davidoffs are spendthrift but worth it. It’s one of my “special occasion” cigars and always have a handful aging in the humidor.LMLarsen wrote: ↑Sun Mar 09, 2025 2:46 am My Dad smoked a pipe when I was a kid but gave it up for Lent one year and never picked it up again. My ‘son’ and I usually enjoy a couple of good cigars when we shoot sporting clays; Arturo Fuente and Bobalu are our favorites, although I did splurge for Christmas and got us a couple of Davidoffs…
You just reminded me I picked up a couple of stupid expensive cigars for my son-in-law and I when my granddaughter was born. Definitely not one of my everyday smokers but DAMN they were amazing. I have to go pull find the ring, it’s on my desk mess, somewhere...

You and your lovely lady got me hooked on Perdomos and they are now in rotation for both myself and my son. Opus-X is now resting on their laurels and name. They are very good, but I’ve had better at a lower price point. Olivia and Patron, like AF are always a good smoke and I love their maduro offerings.Diver43 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 09, 2025 5:44 am Cigars?

I shared the Winderlusts you gave me with my son-in-law and we both agreed that if it was available locally it’d be in rotation for sure! Nice little smoke!
I’m probably going to be in Mexico sometime in April meeting my boss who’s from Munich. Maybe I can get him to smuggle some for us, if I can I’ll share with you

On a bad note, Gurkha, who for years was always one of my favorites is now on my poop list. I bought a sampler of their limited edition aged cigars and my SIL, daughter and I hit them with great anticipation. Their 15 year old was superb so we approached their 18 and 20 year olds with great anticipation only to find out they were ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!! Not only did they taste outright foul but their QC was non-existent with very inconsistent rolling which caused one cigar to be a nightmare to draw on and the next to draw like a straw. Just a terrible experience and I can’t be alone because those samplers are still available and they are just not selling so if you see them run away.

And based on some recommendations I ordered this sampler of “aromatic” tobaccos from an outfit called JM Boswell’s. Wife’s comment, they smell so good I want to eat them! I’m also going to order some straight Virginia tobaccos to try out.
I also bought a second Peterson pipe and 3 vintage ones that I intend to restore, part of this new hobby that I think will interest me. They’ll be here this week

Also let me share some advice I go from an old codger on smoking a pipe or a cigar which totally changed my smoking experience. If you’re not enjoying smoking a cigar or a pipe the solution is always “Less” with your technique.
A cool easy smoke is always preferable to a hot one.

Go to Mexico or smuggle cigars? I have zero choice on the first, it's work related and I've brought back tons of cigars from Mexico before. Zero hassles, I just declare them.Gila wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 12:17 amDon't do it...Wambli Ska wrote: ↑Sun Mar 09, 2025 7:44 pmYou and your lovely lady got me hooked on Perdomos and they are now in rotation for both myself and my son. Smuggle cigars. If you declare them, you're golden, but if they are restricted or have duty on them, you'll need to deal with that. BTW I wouldn't go past a border town with things the way they are right now...Wambli Ska wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 12:50 amGo to Mexico or smuggle cigars? That would make for some expensive cigars. Especially when you live near the border...Wambli Ska wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 5:32 amOh I don’t drive there. Fly in, do business, have fun, fly home…. Re: Any pipe smokers here? and cigar smokers too 😁
As usual I don't know how to do anything half assed. I spent a lot of time reading, asking questions in a very welcoming Pipe Forum and watching YouTube videos on the subjects of smoking, care and even refurbishing pipes. Now I own 9 pipes and have another 1/2 dozen marked on eBay. I decided I was going to learn how to rescue old pipes and I ended up with a bunch of bargain buys on vintage quality pipes that looked like hell and now I have a nice little collection going.
Cleaning and maintenance is not very different from guns...
This restoration I'm pretty proud off. Wellington pipe made in the USA around the 1920s
This is what I started with.
Making this break literally disappear was... challenging. Wife spent a few minutes under a bright light looking closely and she can't spot where the break was.
Funny a lot of the tricks I've learned working on guns apply rather nicely to pipes!!!
I'm almost embarrassed to say I think I like smoking a pipe a little better than cigars! Who knew...

@Wambli Ska. Have you read up on how to sweeten an old briar pipe?
