Finely she’s complete. Remington Rand 1911

Post by Wambli Ska »

If you’ve never met her, she is a first year production Remington Rand 1911. Remington started manufacturing using other makers parts and while their guns were very good the ARMY rejected them because of parts interchangeably issues. It took Remington Rand a year to fix their production problems.

In the mean time the guns that the ARMY rejected where used for testing and many of them were internally converted into corporate executive gift pieces and some were sent to RIA (the original Rock Island Arsenal) to be turned into target and full custom pieces for members of the military and such.

The very few guns that are documented are worth a pile of money. Unfortunately this is not one of the guns with provenance and no one kept any records so I have no way of proving that this is one of the RIA guns.

BUT what I do know is that this gun was fitted with an old match barrel and old school target sights and is a one hole shooter with plain old ball ammo, The polish/bluing on it is nearly black and so shinny makes it look like it’s dipped in crude oil. I love this gun!!!!!

I’d already put stags on her before but they were not a notable set. Well thanks to GeneL they are now wearing a set worthy of her.

So in her El Paso Saddlery holster she is now officially a Sunday go-to-meeting gun.

Very nice. It almost looks like a slow rust blue finish and it very well could be. If it is, it's the most durable of blued finishes.

It'll be period correct if you have to go all "Wild Bunch" on 'em.

I’m thinking of going with a rail for optics. Maybe rings high enough for a nice 4.5-15x50? 😎

You’re the expert. I just know outside of my old Python I don’t have anything else that looks even close to this.

That’s the plan 🤣

Kind’a fun that in my state you can carry this in its full Wild Bunch rig right into a bar in a small parking of gold town, sit at the bar, have a beer and no one will even look at you funny or be the only one carrying a classic rig.

At the bar...hm?
That rig MIGHT get a second look at the Safeway here in Flagstaff but it would be good.

Flagstaff is beautiful and as you know it was heavily under consideration or a permanent address but seems like there are a lot of Birkenstock folks moving there. Still a gorgeous city 😍

No, I’m talking about Nevada dots on the map towns that are basically my stops while off roading. Many of these places are basically ghost towns on life support like Goldfield, population in the few hundreds and 3 great bars, or a great watering hole during the week (full of tourists and bikers on weekends) the Pioneer Saloon which sits at the end of one of my favorite off road drives in Goodsprings, NV. The Cemetery next door to the barbhas more inhabitants than the town. They have bullet holes on the walk from a gun fight in 1912 if I remember correctly 😁

Oh, in Nevada it is perfectly legal to have a gun at a bar and even drink a beer with your burger lunch while carrying. The line is drawn at .08 just like driving.
