If they're smart, they'll just get the one with the compressor.

No salt or ice...

Nice to make your mix, cool it in the fridge then pour it in the machine and turn it on.

Um...I put my churn container in the freezer for twenty four hours, take it out, add the cream, attach the motor and wait! No ice, no salt, no mess. Just a mixer blade to lick when it's done. I'm not a wimp, I'm lazy, brilliant or both ;)

Yeah.

No.

Electric is the way. Or child labor to turn the crank.

I don’t know if I’ve already mentioned this but Freezer’s post about grandkids reminded me:

Grandchild #3 will be here around Dec. 15. My oldest grandchild(soon to be 3) is getting a little sister.

Now I’ve got to go find a Ruger Bearcat, ( and a few other guns).

Don’t you just hate it when you HAVE to go buy guns?!?!?!?!?

That is great! Any excuse, like we need one, to buy a gun is a good reason.

Congratulations!

It's what we do. I have been working on acquiring Colt New Frontier .22 revolvers for my grandkid but it's not easy or cheap

My big lathe has always been "flood coolant" capable but I've never used it before. I finally got it set up which didn't require much but I still don't like the thought of using water based coolant on a machine tool, although it's made for it. I guess time will tell.

It’s perfectly fine. 98% of the machining world can’t be wrong. 😬
(Assuming 2% use oil)

I’ve never had an issue with my Tormach. And it sits for months at a time. Just mix it properly, and do a half assed job of maintaining it. MOST important, is to buy an aquarium pump and an air stone. Drop it in the coolant tank and turn it on.
Or, don’t. And find out what anaerobic bacteria makes your coolant smell like. Hint: it’s what your ass smells like after not showering for 3 days in August. 🤣 If the coolant isnt turning over, a layer of way oil will cover the surface, and create a perfect environment for bacteria to make love to each other and have babies. Hence the pump.

But really, it’s not a bad thing to use the water based coolant. Once the water dries, the oil-ish stuff remains, protecting the metal.

As to brand of coolant, I exclusively use Hangsterfers. Period, full stop, end of story.
Why?

A sales rep named Mark out in California. Through Instagram friends and a podcast I became acquainted with him. He calls on real machine shops. Big shops. Tesla. Aerospace shops. But he had time to talk to me, a jackass in a garage that wouldn’t be directly paying his paycheck with a purchase. He told me what I needed, and where to get it. That’s worth a LOT to me. And he answered my dumb questions graciously.

And it’s a great product. People I know who have big boy shops that make nice parts use it.

There’s many out there, and they all will work. Especially in your application. And mine. But, again, I got service like a “real” customer would get.

Stuff like that goes a LONG way in my book too!
And the opposite can make me swear off a company... FOREVER, unless they become the ONLY source of something I HAVE to have
With the lovely interwebs, not many single source items anymore ;)

I'm assuming I should keep the air stone on all the time then? I actually have one just sitting around unused for the nickeling setup i was going to do, but never did. I don't need 3 day old ass stench in my shop. It's already bad enough with the summer swamp ass and all (btw a bidet is a game changer) 😆.

I also do t remember which coolant I got a gallon of. It had thousands of reviews and 5 stars but as usual, time will tell. I have a feeling ill also be experimenting on carbide insert tooling and flood coolant. I know that cutting oil is a no go with inserts so I guess I'll find out how this works. I hate having to learn new things, hence why I still have a desktop CNC that I haven't figured out how to run. I can't so much as even drag and drop a shape in Fusion 360. It's not intuitive.

Cutting oil is a no go with carbide inserts?
Yeah. No. Not a thing wrong with it. And what’s this experimenting with carbide? Pfffft. Screw HSS and feuding tools.
I leave the pump on all the time.
Fusion certainly has a learning curve, and it’s something you (I) have to be buried in as I find it a perishable skill. But there’s a TON of videos on the YouTube’s to learn from.

No no, I pretty much solely use carbide insert tooling. I just know it seems to give an inconsistent surface finish unless it's dry or flooded. I only use HSS if I need a form tool or the typical drill, reamer, etc...

He has killed three that we know about. Hasn't ate one yet. The first was well licked but intact. The second he left on the bedroom floor at night as a present. Once this one was good and dead he ignored it.
