My range buds and I just had another discussion about compact 45ACP. Naturally I carped and complained. What followed was a frank ( to put it nicely) lecture from a retired LEO and now instructor semi new to our group.
The gist was: in four sentences
1. You do not need a 45.
2. Buy a compact 9mm with a compact RDS.
3. Buy a couple cases of 9mm defensive ammo
4. Get some decent instruction then practice until you can shoot it out to 15 yards.
5. End of topic

Oh how I chafe at harsh direct lectures from those with more experience than I.

He’s right, other than to just 15 yards. Why impost that limit?
If you’re good at 30 or beyond , you can shoot the nuts off a gnat at 15.

And buy cheap stuff to practice with. Confirm with the good stuff.

I love you.
Was going to say the same thing.

My normal distance has always been 25 yards.
I have the Khar CW 45, haven't shot it a lot but do like it and conceals pretty easy.

I carry an XDS and I like it. I practice with reloads that are loaded down a little and it's fine. With full power SD loads it's not as much fun to shoot and a few mag fulls is all I want. I bought a sig tribal 3.3 inch barrel and I want to like it but I can't hit with it for some reason. I was hoping the sights were off but my son didn't have any issues so I guess it is just me. I need to get it out and try it so more and maybe I can get better.

Late to the post...I just went looking to replace my Glock 36 and settled on a Glock 30...its sorta compact...carries easy and shoots well enough that I moved my 1911s into the gun safe...

At one point in time I carried a 1911 for duty. It was the early 2000’s and they were the cool kid gun. I had a Kimber custom and a Kimber custom compact. I shot the crap out of that Compact 1911. I had great luck with mine.
