Well that’s awesome. Take a good look at the cartridge stamp. Some of those are marked 22 auto…..

Oh No. describing that beauty as “vintage” makes me feel sooo old. Two long time friends had and probably still have 63s.
Nice find! Stirs a few good memories for me!

The blueing and the wood grain would have made me pick it up to fondle

Love mine. Just wait until you get inside that thing - it's a machinist's jewel. You know that stamped/extruded thin wall steel tubing the magazines of Marlin Model 60's or Remington Nylon 66's are made of? Nuh-uh. That thing's using probably 3/32"'s thick lathe-turned pipe.

The fact that Winchester lavished the same level of care and attention applied to Model 52 match rifles to an open-sighted plinker with no provision for scope or tang sight makes me smile.

EDIT: Spare firing pins are out there. You may want to acquire one and hope you never need it. The gun has no last shot hold-open, and it's a long-slender affair. Mine came to me with the tip broken off.

WWJMBD?

I believe we should stand on Ceremony. . . while our friends handcuff the sanctimonious little prick and take him away.

I think it's 70 years since they were last made.

If I ever laid my hands on one, it wouldn't leave my grip!! I had a 1907 .351 WSL, same design.

Close, 67 years ago they stopped production.

My late Father In Law had one. I cleaned it up for wife's sister. Tried to trade or buy it but she said no. It's the only gun she ever shot and was the only one she wanted out of the batch.

First impressions at the range.

One was how fast and easy it was to load.
The sliding chute stock cutout works great.
Another was it's an accurate bugger.

It shot high initially but once adjusted all the golf balls and clay pieces on the bank were hit.....all.
It was only 30 yards but the gun didn't miss.

The trigger I normally pay pretty close attention too.
After the first few shots.....I didn't at all.

I did have a jam and it also doesn't like to feed the first round well.
I think some cleaning will solve that.
I did take it apart before hitting the range and it looked good.
Real good but the area I think need cleaning would be infront of the bolt.
