D2 bladed knife for $10

Post by GrapeApe »

Today, I got the 4 I ordered. They've got a slide lock like the Benchmade Axis lock.
The blade's thinner than my Benchmades'

I bought 1 for myself and the wife and the other 2 or for my oldest grandsons
https://www.walmart.com/ip/FOLDING-KNIFE/15270823401

Edited to add: I purchased 2 Black, with stonewashed blades, and 2 Orange, with black blades. I kept 1 orange, the wife a black one, so that leaves 1 of each for the grandsons, which SHOULD prevent the, "You've got my knife" arguments, should one "misplace" theirs.

The blade does look a bit thin but D2 is a very tough steel and damn for $10 who can complain!

If that’s D2, I’ll kiss someone’s ass.

I’ve got one. Gets stupid sharp. I question the steel, however it’s TEN DOLLARS. Who cares what it’s made from. It’s TEN DOLLARS.

I love mine. Been carrying it for a few months. It’s a knife I’m not afraid to do mean things to. (mostly, I mean I am the one sharpening it)

One of these decades I’ll clone it. Already had it apart to see how hard it would be to make.

Is it a Benchmade Bugout? No.
It’s also not $175. Benchmade is on CRACK thinking that knife is worth that.
No, this is the Walmart Wugout. 😬

Might not be D2? I'm not a metallurgist, so I can only go by what they put in the ad copy.

$20 vs $350 for both grandsons (16 and 14)
I can't say how long they'll have them before they lose them, so I'll take the 2 for $20 Alex

I know what it says. It’s stamped on the blade. It’s also made by 9 year olds in a china sweatshop. Not saying they would stretch the truth, just saying.

Regardless, it’s a sore pecker deal for 10 bucks.

I checked, and it's not stamped on any of mine :(

This guy claims it has been tested and IS D2

Then he compares against a S30V Benchmade Bugout
(He appears to be a Benchmade fanboi)

I’ll have to watch that later. I *had* a bugout, gave it to my oldest daughter when she went off to college. I honestly prefer the Walmart version, at least as far as the feel goes. Ergonomically, it’s damn near perfect for my hands.

Having just got them today, I haven't had time to fall in love with them. However, I've gotten the clip switched over for left pocket carry, and plan on carrying it.

FYI, in the video I linked, he ends up snapping the Bugout in half and only bends the handle of the "wugout" as you called it. He does snap the tip off the "D2" WO's tip while the S30V BO's tip survived the same test.
Oh, and FYI the Bugouts have gone up, the cheapest one on BM's site is now $180

We have a pretty cool knife shop in town, carries mostly high end stuff. They had an open house the other day and I was messing with some fancy BO with aluminum scales. It was like $350. 🙄

The $70 Civivi brand knives felt way smoother. Which, FYI are a LOT of knife for the money.

Another fun fact, the Walmart knife has full length scale liners, adds some heft but also stiffness, and it also has bearings, not washers.
There’s a bugout taken apart.

IMO it's 80%+ of the Bugout for less than 6% of the cost.

I'll make that trade

I was a huge Benchmade fan back when the 154CM Griptilian was $80. Now that they're something like $150 I am far less interested. I'm going to give these knives a look-see.

I have two on the way as well. The griptillian is my favorite folder ever, but for what Benchmade wants they can fold it up their arse.

My BM 710 (Also a favorite of Linefinder) is now $450, though for that price, you get the "better" M390 steel, vs the 154CM that was one of the most premium steels when mine was made, last century

Gritilians have been upgraded to S30V steel, but for $160, I'll pass
