Boots and hats are essentials, and should need no enablement...

BTW I was listening to one of Sean Ryan latest podcasts on the way back from visiting my son in Phoenix and he was saying he has lost all interest in all the "tools" he used when he was a SEAL and is now concentrating on lever actions and old wheel guns. My wife just looked at me and laughed out loud!!!

My Glock gets frequent use in training sessions but it never puts a smile on my face. It's like going to the gym. Necessary.

But I have 4 new unfired SA guns that need to go out to play and THAT will make me happy.

There is something very satisfying about emptying out a lever action while repeatedly making a 5 gallon bucket dance at 100 yards offhand. BTW you can get those really cheap at HD and they make NICE fun targets out there on BLM land. Way more durable than water jugs and easier to clean up, actually they help in target cleanup even when they look like Swiss cheese!

I've killed a ton of deer.
But the one that sticks in my memory the most, was a nice buck trotting through the woods at about 75 yards, across a deep ravine, going left to right and the sights settling in on his shoulder when the Marlin .45-70 spoke!
He dropped like a rock!
Now, looking back, every deer I ever killed, was killed with some form of lever action, or a Ruger #1 single shot!

When I had my own place to hunt the goto gun was my Kimber 84 in 7mm-08 and it accounted for a LOT of deer. That rifle is the "something IS going to die today" no matter what shot or distance I encounter.

BUT towards the end of the season when I already had a good supply of venison and I was just going for walks in the woods with a gun, just in case an opportunity presented itself, the chosen rifles were all lever actions. For me, nothing feels as easy to carry in hand or as lively for a snap shot as a lever.
