The "Short List" Thread, Winter 2025 Edition

Post by shotgunshooter3 »

We haven't done a short list in awhile, so what's yours?

With legislative updates where I live, mine has shifted a bit. While previously I was mainly just keeping an eye out for targets of opportunity, I've decided to make a pointed effort to pick up an updated can and a few AR lowers. Additionally, I recently scooped up a Glock 9mm as a backup for my USPSA gun prior to the "Gen V" and Gen 6 rollout. Also, if the price is right, I may be grabbing a higher end AR and/or 9mm PCC come Black Friday. Thusly, my short list is:

- HuxWrx Flow 556Ti Suppressor
- Geissele, SOLGW, or similar AR
- 9mm PCC, details TBD based on sales (Either Daniel Defense, MAC MP5 Clone, or a wild card)
- .357 Lever Gun (likely Ruger/Marlin, or a tacticool Henry)
- 9mm/.357/.45 can
- Updates/upgrades for current guns

There are only two on my list. Ruger SP101 .357mag, probably used at a good price. Not yet selected is a 22lr bolt gun. Accurate being priority. Savage B22, Bergara B14R, or Tikka T1x followed by Ruger Precision Rimfire.

No plans. I’m kinda over crowded. But, I’ll always be looking for targets of opportunity.

Option 1:
Toying with the idea of a BCA bolt action 338ARC upper, HOWEVER, that's going to entail setting up to load a new cartridge, keeping another diameter bullet on hand, and, of course, another can. So not sure the juice would be worth the squeeze.

Option 2:
Something along the lines of a Ruger PC Charger, a Stribog sp9a3g both in 9mm and Glock mag compatible, or, maybe even a stribog sp10a3, to give the 10mm some love. Would only need a can for one of those, and whichever I chose, would be braced.

Actually that is kind'a my way to operate nowadays. I do look for targets of opportunity to upgrade or buy right to later use as "trading" material. My collection is officially pretty complete and self funding so with the exceptions of the stuff my wife gifts me my occasionally my criteria is, "Is this nicer than a comparable item in my "keep" pile. If yes, buy and replace and/or sell/trade something that is on the surplus pile to fund. Also my tastes have changed so I disposed of a surplus of black guns to acquire more classics.

Just bought a new thermal, so that one hurt a bit. I’ve got a .243 to rebuild, a .223 to rebarrel into .300 BO. Mainly free at this point, I’ve got the barrel and reamer.

As far as new, I’m eyeballing a custom bolt gun. Because 95% of factory offerings are hot garbage. Do yourself a favor and NEVER run a quality bolt gun built off a boutique action . You’ll be ruined.

Short list? Yeah I’m not that tall so it’s all on the short list. I like, and buy nice 22’s, and “dash” cartridges stuff. I don’t have any real have to’s but I did pick up a new barrel for an AR. The 1:7 barrel that was on it was no joy with anything but 75grain plus bullets, even that was a 2” group at 50’yards so adios! I picked up a “heavier” 16 carbine barrel in 1:9 for a 55grain + ammo shooter. it should work well together. I did spy a nice 3” 357 Gp100 blue fixed sight today at the shop….. so ya never know

Not much. Ruger Bearcat for my soon-to-be-here granddaughter.

I’d like a pistol caliber lever gun. And a .22 lever gun.

Nothing on a list, but open to local opportunities. Recently picked up a couple R700s that may just be donors. One is newer chambered in .22-250, and the other is older chambered in .30-06. Im set for donor actions for a while I suspect. Only things I am loosely keeping an eye out for would be a .300 BO (too many factory rounds and components laying around) or a 7mm RM.

My list is very short...
One of these...https://www.guncity.com/300-blackout-ti ... ded-398028

But it might have to wait until 2028...
At the moment I dont have to provide details of every firearm I own to the Register of firearms till 2028. But buying ammunition, firearms parts or a firearm is a 'triggering event', which means I will then be forced to register everything.
Until then, I will continue to use those that I have on the basis that if it aint broke, why fix it.

Besides, my new girlfriend will probably end up making me broke.....havent spoken to her yet as I am only at the stalking stage at the moment.....

Which Thermal(brand)did you go with?

I'd like to do another Form 1 can but it's my understanding that they've become more difficult to apply for after the ATF deemed alot of things as "suppressor parts." I don't know how true it is but supposedly you have to supply them with pictures of the materials you plan to use, but if you do so, they'll say that you possess suppressor materials with intent. Maybe BS, but it sounds like something they would do.

I "doubt" that's anything more than a "my buddy's, uncle's, next door neighbor's friend from kindergarten had it happen" story.

I just downloaded the current form 1 (officially form F 5320.1) from ATF.gov. It doesn't list anything about pictures other than the same passport photo they've been requiring since I filled out my first one.

Feel free to see for yourself

https://www.atf.gov/firearms/docs/form/ ... 1/download

edited to add: The ONLY change I've found is the addition of this OMB No. 1140-0011 (12/31/2025) on the upper right corner.
I'm guessing that has to do with the expiration of the tax stamp 01/01/2026, but am not positive.

No real list per say but should a 5.7x28 or 30 Super carry turn up at the right time, right price I'd indulge. Can't tell you why I'm interested in ether other than pure curiosity. Oh and a .22 rifle with the accuracy potential to out shoot Andy's  Good luck with that!!

I'll have to do some looking about it again because I've seen it mentioned in a few different places, including some youtube videos but you're right, I don't see a place for it on the form. Maybe the electronic version 🤷‍♂️

Winston Churchill's last words were "I am bored with it all".

Yeah. Kinda getting there. There's a slight whisper in the back of my head to track down a decent example of a Type 99 Arisaka, but reason has so far prevailed with "Ya know, you have .30-ish caliber, 150-ish grains, at 2500-ish fps pretty well covered at this point".

Mostly accessories. Lights, two more optics for some glocks, and a few more buis.

I’m kinda interested in that Sig P211, their entry into the 2011 herd. But it’s a bit spendy…
