Able to post again!
Was having an issue with posting pictures so I got that problem figured out and I've got some catching up to do!
Was in a Pcola gun shop with my BIL over Thanksgiving. Saw him pick this one up and I recognized it immediately! When he put down a thought It's mine.
It's a Savage Model 23A .22. The interesting thing we couldn't figure out is why the muzzle is threaded and it has a knurled thread protector!
Gun was made in 1930 and it looks original! Now I have the complete set, also a .25-20, .32-20 and a .22 Hornet!
Shoots good too!
Stay tuned, more to come soon!!

Threaded back in the day for a home made muffler?

Cool
Zee is really starting to appreciate savages now.
Isn't the barrel and receiver all out of 1 piece of steel ?
Didn't savage even have to start their own ammo line as the kings were afraid of them

Re: Able to post again!
Yes! That why they're so unique! The receiver and barrel are machined from one piece of steel! All done by skilled craftsmen, not computers!!
I still don't know why the barrel is threaded!!??

Re: Able to post again!
I was looking for a a 1930 Savage Arms catalog to see if that was a Factory option but I can't find a .pdf online and the only option for an original I found was $75. BUT I suspect it is a factory option based on the fact that this is as stated a one piece receiver/barrel manufacture.
Re: Able to post again!
I'm thinking it may have been for some kind of muzzle weight for target shooting.

Could be, but suppressors have been around since 1902 and they were still legal to own and easily available in 1930.

Yep Teddy Roosevelt had a suppressed 1894 Winchester….yeah politicians screwed up “silencers” in the 30’s with the NFA, boo! Meanwhile in Europe they are cash and carry!Wambli Ska wrote: ↑Tue Jan 13, 2026 4:07 am Could be, but suppressors have been around since 1902 and they were still legal to own and easily available in 1930.
