I’ve contacted a nearby company that sells and installs whole house generators. I’ve been thinking about it for awhile but this storm, plus my wife mentioned it Last week, has made me look in to it. My son and family live in an all electric house. They were here with their 3yo and 7 wk old baby.

We don’t need it often but when we do, oh boy do we REALLY need it. Plus my wife and I are getting older so it’ll be a benefit.
Bought one about a year ago and haven't lost power for a second since!

Can you have your generator connected to natural gas? That never goes out, runs out or gets old. Propane is another option.

Yes. Mine runs on LP, but NG is the best option. Only downside is the bill when that sucker runs at 2-3 gallons per hour.

Assuming my genset burns 2.5 gallons of LP per hour my daily cost would be around $115 based on what I just paid today for a tank refill.

That is still better than trying to fie up a generator that has bad fuel when you need it once every 3 to 10 years. I'd go NG.

Yeah, but you need to factor in the initial cost of the whole house genset. About $10k+ assuming you don't install yourself.

I get NG if we get one. Our NG provider offers equal billing. They divide your yearly usage by 12. Our bill runs about $100/mo year round. We don’t use that much most months but it keeps us from having 2-4 months of $300-400 monthly bills.

We’ve only been without power in this house(12/94) for over 8 hrs 3 times. The first one was an ice storm in 94 or 95. Katrina, then this week.

My wife and I have elderly parents and we certainly aren’t getting younger (62) so being without power for several hours is not fun. I was VERY concerned about the water pipes in the house. Monday morning temp was in the teens.

Ng can run out, especially in the south when they let all the people who know retire and dont train the new on where the button got the heater is that keeps the valves from freezing, AKA TX last time it got chilly there.
Propane. Generators dont produce as many watts on propane or NG, and if all the lines are down, how does the propane truck get there?
Better off buying a 275gal tank and filling it with #2 home heating oil and running a diesel
