Oryx Chassis

Post by Elk Creek »

I found a oryx chassis for a Remington model 7 at the shop. It was an employee’s buddy’s stock. I told him I might be interested, just let me know what he is thinking. He got back to me and said “it’s new in box he bought it thinking it was for a 700, he said $100 it’s yours…..” done. So with the mag I’m $140 deep into a chassis 300 BO! As of 24 hours ago I had zero interest in getting a chassis for a rifle. Oh what a difference a day makes!

Well done. Chassis rifles are very adaptable.

Looking at the photos, this would look pretty silly without the can!🤣

Chassis are nice when you are willing to try new ways of shooting. Like tripods, NV, lights, etc.

I’ve got the same one. Love it, save for two things.

The forearm is “curved”. Perfectly fine unless you want to instal an ARCA rail. Your choices are pay as much as you paid for that chassis for the specific one that MDT makes, crank the poop out of a standard rail, or shim it jankily. I don’t like any of those. I’ve got mine shimmed, for now.

The buttplate isn’t adjustable. I think they sell an add on. One year I’ll draw one and print/machine one. It’s Perfectly fine as is unless you’re using a tripod. Then you could use some adjustment.

But otherwise, it’s damn hard to beat.

For the money I have into it I can see zero issues so far. That said I pick it up and my brain is looking for the selector switch.🤣

I would embark on a project at that price.

I did! 🤣 the Remington model 7 isn’t normally a long range option….

Great price.

I have two Oryx chassis. One Savage in 308 and one Howa 1500 in 6 ARC. Very functional.

As CPJ mentioned, putting an ARCA rail on it, you have to deal with the slight curve in the bottom of the forend. I think I used 6” ARCA rails and just tighten them so they bend slightly to the contour of the forend. They still attach to my tripod, no problem. You could also use a 3” rail and deal with the curve less. But that limits the function a bit as far as adjustability. Still could work.

Now you need a tripod….

Surprisingly, no. I have three model 7 rifles. One is a 308 win that was assigned to him when he was on the local PD’s SWAT team. Another one is a 243 dad bought that is a first year production rifle, the last one is the 300BO AAC rifle. The 308 stays as it is, as does the 243. While putting a 300 blackout in a chassis is kinda odd it’s the only real option I have. It should be fun!
