Gene, you're missing a number, 7.65 not 6.5
So I picked up this Mauser
Re: So I picked up this Mauser
Sorry about that. I got confused by numbers. I had to delete my entire post as it made no sense. However, what I can remember is the length of 45 mm. That's awfully short for a 7.65 cartridge. With that abbreviated case capacity, makes one wonder why it's got a long range sight on it.

Makes me wonder why such an obscure pretty obsolete clambering.
It definitely calls out to be something different
I'll have to think and talk about it with a gunmaker.
257 roberts or 6.5 ×55 are two it may become when the decision comes.

Orrrrrr, prime candidate for a walking bear stomper in .35 Whalen or a classic 9.3

Re: So I picked up this Mauser
The easy button route would be run a reamer for the x57 version of whatever cockamamie metric bore diameter it is….

That’s boring. And cheap. We need to help build the economy!

I'm thinking more on the lighter side even 243 woul do.
Re: So I picked up this Mauser
Did I miss something? What did the chamber cast show? With a .312 bore it's not a 7.62x45.
You could ream it to 7.65X53 Arg. it is basically a 308 class cartridge,an easy change in a semi-common cartridge,

That is the most cost effective and easiest thing to do. But it looks like our buddy has a new barrel in mind

Guy doesn't know what he's going to do at this point.
Re: So I picked up this Mauser
If I liked the gun a lot, I'd get it rechambered/rebarreled to something useful. I think I remember the barrel is 20 inches, maybe it's been shortened before. Twenty inches seems awful short, doesn't it? The process takes some time and research. You're not the first member of the board to get wooed by a pretty face. For me, it would depend on how much money I have in it and how much to get it right.

Rebarreled with a barrel marked .275 Rigby.
