More pawn shop buys... Cutty slashy thingy with a bonus
So I saw a Shiv Works Ban Tang knife at a Pawn shop yesterday and I've done some business with these guys so we've gotten to know each other and they always give me good deals. This version of this knife was over $339 when it was released and they had a price of $170 on it. So the guy says $150 out the door. Here's the original site: https://shivworkspg.com/shop/ban-tang-c ... ick-v-2-0/
Well tempting... But I went home to sleep on it. The knife is brand new without a box or papers (I'm Ok with that), BUT they have a 2x12 vintage Crate AMP (awesome for hi gain metal sound) that came from their Utah store they closed that is on my list of toys to get. They had it originally for $249 (overpriced), then on sale for $160 (good deal) and now on clearance for $30 (outright steal) because the screen in front of the speakers looks like hell (they all do in this vintage amp) even though everything else looks great and I KNOW the electronics are fine.
So I went back this morning and I told my buddy $150 and you throw in the Crate Amp... He chuckles, shakes his head, looks in their computer and asks the manager who I also know. DEAL!
So the knife went on my belt at the store and I just got home and tried my amp and it ROCKS!!! LOUD with my Fender Strat and sounds great with my microphones for voice. The sound is totally clean to stupid loud and only one of the POTs needs to be cleaned a bit.
BTW they have a Winchester 1995 in .405 (Teddy's Big Medicine) that I think will end up my name on it. I need to sleep on that one too...

For that money, I'd buy it just because....

Yep, agreed. And as a bonus I was strumming my Fender Strat today and wife walks into the room all excited because she recognized the chords of Rooster by Alice in Chains! Makes my Fender sound exactly like the album.

I just overhauled a vintage Fender Twin Reverb for an almost neighbor The core issue was it was a 110v model. Took a month or so to source a few parts but it sounds great now. The cabinet and grill show its age but it sounds great now.

That’s the first amp I ever owned!!! Sweet sounding amp, one of Fenders best. They now bring a lot of money, wish I still had it

If you find any vintage vacuum tube items check the design line voltage. 110 volts was the old standard then it went to 117 volts and it is now 120 volts. A small difference but connecting 110 volt tube equipment to 120 volt line plays hell with many components.
That is what had happened to the Fender amp I just reworked.
Thankfully the parts needed to convert it to run on 120 volts were available but expensive.

That's good info. I have seen a bunch of them for sale and I've had an itch for a replacement for a long time. My other Fender is nice but it's a newer solid state affair and the sound is ALMOST the same but just not quite.Japhy wrote: ↑Sun Mar 08, 2026 8:12 pmCaution!Wambli Ska wrote: ↑Sat Mar 07, 2026 4:56 amThat’s the first amp I ever owned!!!
