You ever read something from a supposed "expert"...

Post by GrapeApe »

that's so full of BS that you can't do anything but shake your head and mentally say "No, just no"???
Just a couple of excerpts
A long barrel also provides the runway a bullet needs to stabilize fully before exiting the muzzle.
:o
Lastly, barrel length affects a bullet’s twist rate – how much a bullet spins within the barrel when fired. Long .300 Blackout barrels have a tighter twist rate, which helps maintain a high velocity and accuracy when shooting a heavy bullet.
 :o

This isn't from some self proclaimed expert. It's on a barrel manufacturers' website

Well, some cited barrel manufacturers who said you need to break in a barrel as proof it was mandatory....

Lack of understanding?

Poor writing skills?

Relaying the information poorly to someone who CAN write, but doesn't grasp the original meaning?

Trying to dumb it down, but too dumb to do it well?

Language is an imperfect medium for communication - even when people are speaking the same language.

An chance they might be referring to "gain twist rifling" Read about it years ago. No idea if it is actually used anywhere.

Bigslug brings up a point... it's more than likely not a barrel gnome who knows what's what who wrote that, but someone with a degree in communication or marketing and who really doesn't understand what the gnome told them.

I would pay good money to see a championship heavyweight boxing match between Artificial Intelligence and Natural Stupidity.

Hopefully, A.I. could be used to resurrect Howard Cosell to commentate the match.

Well AI is here to stay folks. My company is spending lots of money on it and FAST adopting it even for every day office use. Basically we have the opportunity to become experts trining on the job. I wish more companies would do this.

You can build your own agent that learns your style and way of managing. Kind'a cool to basically ask "your" AI agent to bring up and summarize ALL emails in my inbox on a topic with a breakdown of contributions by each stakeholder, and in two seconds I have all the info in front of me that I need to make decisions or prove a point. I can then ask it to make a powerpoint presentation to organize the information to suit a Product Management group. DONE! It save me hours every day.

Now that being said there is a big difference between our level of automation and a small company buying one Grock subscription and using it for tasks that it's ill suited for...

So the above is poorly written BUT if you take away the crappy language and think of the concept they are trying to communicate, AND their probable audience (wannabe armchair commandoes that are NOT gun experts) they do get a message of sorts across. Basically don't get a 5" barrel in .300 BO so you can look good at the range, and expect a 300 yard shooter...

And then the intended audience will have their agent summarize the PowerPoint and give them a synopsis.
That saves them hours of watching PowerPoints!

AI is definitely not going anywhere. Hell, doctors use it in their office and ChatGpt was able to find an answer to a health issue of mine that's been stumping quite a few doctors. Pretty frustrating to have gone to lord knows how many specialists only for a free app to figure it out instantly.

No question AI WILL get more things done. It’s just making society as a whole, dumber.

Yep, and it'll only get worse. The internet as a whole has been the downslide of humanity and I'm glad that it wasn't a thing until I was nearly an adult. At least I had a normal childhood. Most of these kids today are so much more likely to sit in the house that when some of them do try to enjoy outdoor activities, some dìckhead calls the cops on them.

I saw a series of Instagram videos of people threatening, harassing and calling the cops on kids fishing. I'll never get what the big deal is 🤷‍♂️

Got the cops called on me for fishing once when I was a kid. I was on a golf course pond so there is that

Yep, now you get it. Yet, the intent of it is to educate, use logic and facts to make decisions and do it faster than the competition. And for that AI is exceptional. BTW it’s also AMZING at managing global networks real time so we have no data traffic congestion.

My MIL just had heart surgery. After 4 weeks of stupid mistakes that sent her to ICU twice, arrogant attitudes from “medical” personnel and a general uncaring attitude by hospitals etc. I for one can’t wait til they are all replaced by Tesla robots and AI.

AI still makes a lot of mistakes. Yesterday I was trying to troubleshoot an ozone monitor that I was unable to recalibrate, and while searching for some answers the AI suggestions kept having me look for issues with a completely different monitor system from the model I was asking about. Of course the AI suggestion is always at the top and half the time you have to scroll through a few pages of other BS on the phone before you can get to suggestions from actual people. I dislike AI, but I have been asked by my employer to work on a new AI data center that would result in one hell of a paycheck for the next year and a half, but might also get expensive by potentially costing me my marriage as well as having zero life outside of work for that time period.

So called "AI" (It really isn't) has its uses, but I don't see it as germane to my day to day existence. Its going to be - and already is no doubt - used for far more evil than good. I've used it to touch up a couple of photographs that would be very hard (for me) to do manually. Combine it with smartphones and "social media" and you'll have a deadly triumvirate of evil.

Speaking of my favourite subject, I spent 3 weeks in Egypt a couple of months ago. The thing I noticed immediately was the comparative lack of smartphones. Oh, there were plenty of them around, but not everyone had one, I didn't see any kids with one, and nobody had their face surgically embedded in one. In short, the Egyptian culture hasn't been destroyed by them YET.

OTOH, I was also in Sweden for a few days - they're almost as bad as we are when it comes to the slavish devotion to the PHOOOOOONNE!! But amazingly, at no time did we have a problem because we didn't have one. Unthinkable to smartphone addled Americans!
"There is nothing I can think of that is improved by inserting a smartphone into the process."

My son works for a bank down here that was just bought by a big bank in OH. He said they have a call center in the Philippines. They just brought out an AI program which removes the accent of the Filipino workers. He said customer satisfaction has skyrocketed and so has employee satisfaction.

Whether you like the guy(s) or not, do yourself a favor and listed to Joe Rogan's last interview with Elon Musk which was about AI. It's either going to make you REALLY happy or scare the crap out of you depending on your personality and acceptance of the future. But it will let you know where we are today and how fast and where we are headed on this MOST inevitable outcome.

Be WARNED: Some of you will just go COOL!!!! and some will have cardiac infractions during the podcast...

And here is another thing, the "AI" most folks experience which is the agents freely available with Google and such are very good and quite frankly WAY smarter than most humans already and they DO learn from interactions with you, as long as you identify yourself to them, as in actually signing in to a Google account. They learn from every interaction who YOU are, what you are interested in and how to best deal with your queries The biggest problem is that just like talking to any human genius the person asking the questions usually does not ask in a format that fits what they actually seek. My wife is a prime example. She gets ridiculously verbose with her queries and confuses the agent. Simplify and you get a much better response. And you should know, the public facing stuff is DUMBED big time down for a reason.

A few years ago when American Express designed their Customer Service systems so as soon as you called the agent had ALLL your info in front of them scared the CRAP out of most AMX card holders. So American Express dumbed down the system and their agents behavior so they would not have to waste the agents time answering customers questions like, "How did you know who I was before I told you?". Same thing is happening today... We are FAR ahead of anything most folks experience beyond having Amazon Prime Music show you great music picks in your stream/channel. As an example my interactions with Starlink buying their service and installing etc were FLAWLESS and I never dealt with a human. 100% AI and LORD I'm happy with the service.

That is a perfect example of AI helping us have a better and more productive life. The world is changing FAST!!!!!! Even the simple things are so cool. My new Apple air pods do live translation and for a technology that has just reached mass acceptance it is quite good and getting better by the day. I was literally at the airpot headed to Germany when I bought the newly announced Apple Pro AirPods and gave them a test run for 8 days since I do not speak German.... and DAMN!!!!!

Just talking to a buddy who is a high level executive for my company. He told me he spent 3 hours playing with AI this past weekend. His sister has a very nice and profitable small business and she was complaining that advertising was just not paying for itself. He decided to help her and put in all the pertinent information into his AI agent for her.

Not only did AI produce a very good advertising program for her but also listed the best ROI per venue on social media, told her what videos to film, wrote scripts for the videos and then put together a 3 year growth plan including resources to build the units, ROI on the investments necessary for growth and then gave her a summary of compelling info to use to show her customers the savings of using her product.

He is a VERY knowledgeable business guy and he could find ZERO wrong with all the info he got back, he said this thing thought of stuff HE forgot was important...
