Hunting seasons are starting soon- Whats this year’s lineup?

Post by bullsi1911 »

Still deciding on mine. Probably starting off with the DPMS LR-308 to get one in the freezer, then going after special projects.

I will definitely be trying to get the Carcano after one if it shoots worth a damn

Deer/turkey (can get both on an archery tag) with a bow, providing the elbow holds. May use a crossbow if I have to.

Deer with my in process .308. May or may not get the chassis machined by then. I have it drawn, 3D printed the design, and the more I look at it the more hate it. It’s in a thumb hole stock now, and it’s functional.

The new .308 is going on a road trip.
Maybe one of the inherited 38-55s for a local hog.

Kimber Hunter 6.5 Creedmore
Light LR Rem 700 in 7mm-08
REM 700 in 7mmRM

Are all ready to roll depending on opportunity and terrain. BUT this late in the year I have no clue of what, where or when. Maybe next week I’ll start trying to plan something and ANY suggestions from our Western states members are HIGHLY appreciated.

Looks like its just going to be deer season for me. That means it will be the M70 .458x1.8. I should really get a back up ready though. Last few seasons have come to an early end due to scope fogging.

Going to make an effort to take a deer with the Kimber .338 Federal up north at deer camp, a Savage 220 or an 870 in the middle of the state, or a Thompson .50 Impact in the middle of the state if all else fails, then a borrowed .308 or .243 for some pigs after MN deer season

The only cartridges I think I have that I’ve not take. Deer with are a 6.5x47 Lapua MOA Maximun and a .480 Ruger SBH.
The MOA I’ve never even shot and just have target ammo for currently. Need to work up a hunting load for it and would like to hunt with it this year. If I take a deer.
The Ruger was broken from new and I never got around to sending it back. Need to do that and finish load work for it as well.

Those are about the only desires that I have to actually “hunt” with. Anything else will likely be targets of opportunity or night hunting and will most likely be a .223/.243/.308 flavor.

The only tags I drew this year are Oryx and Javelina. Probably go with the 308 AR mostly for Oryx, just because it’s a very rare tag to draw and that gun does the job every time. I think it would be cool to take one with the Sharps. But I’m not quite as confident with it. For Javelina, it’ll be whatever the heck I feel like taking that particular day, as long as I can reach 300+ yards with it, preferably. But, not gonna sweat javelina all that much.

Of course! Plus it would finally check off the “iron sight mil-surp” deer

"It depends" on a lot, mainly on if I get out at all. If I have time to do the final tweaking, my Remington 700 7mm RM will get the nod. Otherwise, it will be the old reliable Remington 700 7mm08.
