I stumbled on a story today

Post by Freezer »

and I wept. The end of the story set in my heart why I restore old worthless guns for free, they have a story to tell. There are a lot of stories like this out there I guess, I'm glad I found this one.

What is this rifle? It’s fake. It’s an AI generated video. It’s a total BS video. It’s click bait.

Stolen Valor! Your right, I went to the Smithsonian website to check, the exhibit doesn't exist. That sucks!

Yep, so many "old vet disrespected", "Boss didn't know I held the (pick 1) patent/deed/password, "Karen thought she ______" type BS videos abound these days

Anger and outrage drive more reads than positive, uplifting stuff. Been that way for a loooooooooong time with the media, the Internet and social media has also figured that out.

This isnt a dig at anyone or any age group, just a thought. I'm considered a "geriatric millennial 😆." I just missed being gen X. I got to grow up mostly before internet, with internet and now the invent of AI. I wonder what future tech will come about thats able to fool me when I'm older. I'd imagine it'll happen.

A video played for me on the YouTube’s last night. I was half watching YT, half browsing the web for rifle parts. It was supposedly a video audition from American Idol. Some big burly looking dude playing guitar. Had a nice voice. Rough and graveley. Nice guitar sound. I was honestly taken aback.

Then…..something was…..off. The song didn’t really follow any common progression. It was going on too long, in the context of other American idol auditions. Then I noticed the tears on the singers face. They didn’t move. Then I noticed his fingers didn’t match the notes. Waaaait a minute, Clanker! You didn’t fool me!
Actually it did. For a decent amount. I’ll blame it on me half paying attention.
But it’s ALREADY good enough to fool 95% of people. As long as the video is made in context of something plausible, and it’s kept simple it’s gonna be hard for most to detect.

I suspect anything properly curated that didn't convey total BS could fool nearly everyone right now. The one in the OP is the type of slop that fools those it needs to to accomplish it's purpose.

That's understandable when you're not fully watching. There's something visual about the AI videos that I pick up on immediately when it comes to the pixelation. It just looks different in a way that I can't explain. The voices are usually another giveaway, depending on what the video is about. If its just people talking to one another, its almost like they're monotonously yelling at one another. I've about had it with the AI being posted on Facebook though, especially when its posted as being real.

Ever seen the ones with Bob Ross or Mr Rogers ? Due to the 1980’s looking VHS recording filter….you ain’t telling them from something real.
Other than the words they use. Which are comedic GOLD

I don't twit, **** or twot, I don't do Facebook, I find it a horrible gosip page where folks post too much information. I don't like the fact that my phone listens to me and my car can talk to me. If my wife passes before me I'll drown Alexa and I unplug it if she's gone for a couple days. Ya, I'm old and I really don't like what I see. I think I was the only person to click "I don't like it" on that site and wrote what a liar they are and the fact this is "stolen Valor". I doubt it will ever be read.

I find it strange that nobody is talking about clones anymore...Do you think they just stopped making them 20 years ago?
