Catching up with some hunting and shooting

Post by Ernie »

I like to shoot and I like to hunt, and I have been blessed to do both.
Was able to fill some antelope and whitetail tags last year, using a multitude of specialty pistols in different chamberings.
Start off with the good ole 308 Win XP with the Speer 172 Impact bullet at 423 yards.

Next up on the same day with a small buck with my fast twist 25 Creed HSP with the 134 ELD-M, just over 500 yards.

Multiple days later, I went after my last doe antelope (Uncommon or horned doe), and I made a number of mistakes, primarily because I was exhausted. It was both humbling and educational. 223 AI XP with the 75 grain A-Max. Bullet performed well-I did not. I had memorable chat with Zee after the fact :D

Whitetail hunting up against the Bighorns with Dan was a blast, and we both got vension for the freezer. Four deer down in a short period of time from 200ish-220ish.
All shots seated with a tripod. MOA Maximum 6 Creed with the 108 ELD-M, Pachmayr Dominator 25 Creed with 110 AB's, and the center-grip 6GT with the 109 ELD-M.
All were one and done. Three of the four involved very quick shooting at they cross the open area in the 2-track. One was slightly quartering toward me, shooting the 6GT. The 4th one I had time, as she was stomp walking and then standing and snorting seeing the other dead deer.

Glenn and I will go out to public land just south of town and set-up steel on public land since Mac's Gunworks closed.
These are a couple of new steel targets that I have purchased for WY-SHOT 2026.
Glenn did the painting on both the antelope and the deer.
Antelope at 502 yards and the deer at 630ish.
Majority of shooting was from a portable bench.
At the end, I fired 10 or so shots standing off of my tripod.
Glenn shot a center grip 22 Creedmoor and a rear grip 223 Remington.
I brought three rear- grip specialty pistols.
6GT, 6.5 Creedmoor, and a 6.5 PRC.
We had a lot of fun, and the specialty pistols shot great. The wind was fairly nice to us. At the end, I had 10 rounds or so left with my rear grip, single shot 6.5 PRC, and Glenn reminded me that that I wanted to do some practice from the standing position off of my tripod. With 10 or so rounds left I shot at the 502 yard antelope and made a really nice group.

One of those shots went just to the right of the vitals as the wind let off on me, but other than that, I couldn’t have been more pleased. I’ve got some videos and pictures below.
