Re: SA Heatseeker pistol
I've recently seen a few sources with Springfield 2020's on clearance for as low as $1300. Around that price point I'm way more interested.

It comes in a nice case
Springfield Armory Heatseeker Pistol
If Zee is patient, he may find one on the used market as well.
The brake doesn't look to be much, and a 308 lightweight rig with a brace will not be as enjoyable in the recoil department as some will expect.
Looking forward to seeing the street price.
I will not pick one up, as I am slowly moving some specialty pistols on to other folks.
I have more than enough.

Put a can on that SA pistol (Without a brace or being SBR'ed) with a rifle scope, shooting a 168M's...You might want to give yourself some extra room, because it is going to come at you about twice as much as a brake

If your brake is actually a suppressor attachment point. Aka:Surefire Brake and Surefire Suppressor. Re: SA Heatseeker pistol
They can be used together but NOT at the same time as n the capabilities will not “combine” for lack of a better word. The brake gets completely covered by the can when it’s attached basically rendering it’s capabilities moot, no recoil reduction.
So you use the brake to tame recoil or it becomes just a mount for the can.

Re: SA Heatseeker pistol
I have one suppressor that has a brake (The suppressor does cover it up), and I am not noticing an advantage.
There is now more offerings, where there is a brake that can be screwed on the front of the can-Those add an advantage of more recoil reduction, but it also will increase noise to the shooter.
I don't have one of those yet.
If a suppressor can get closer to a good brake recoil reduction with less noise and less concussion, I am interested.

My brother bought one of those in .22Mag. It’s fun to shoot, and the barrel change is slick as hell.

The longest SP barrel I have is 17”. And it’s on a rear grip falling block MOA Maximum. It’s stupid long. Ernie has some rear grip BA SPs that I’d personally draw the line on as being name sake only and stupid. But, he likes and uses them.
That’s where I draw the line and tease him to where I can just fold my stocks and call them pistols. I personally think there is a point where making a point becomes counter productive and ridiculous.
Everyone has to draw their own line in the sand. I’m vocal about mine. On occasion. Ha!!

Re: SA Heatseeker pistol
A can is a better brake than ANY dedicated brake.
What is the job of a brake? To redirect the gasses to prevent the rocket effect of supersonic gasses coming out of the muzzle and pushing the barrel straight back.
What is the job of a can? To contain, cool and slow those gasses so they leave the can over a longer period of time at a subsonic velocity

A brake will provide better recoil and muzzle rise control than a can, without external brake, ever will.
A can will obviously beat a brake in noise reduction.
They each have their place.
I can shoot a rifle with brake and with can and noticeably experience a reduced recoil/muzzle shift with a brake alone.

Just did a quick search, and Silencer Shop claims that silencers reduce recoil by 20-40%Zee wrote: ↑Fri Apr 24, 2026 3:36 am

Q1: Do suppressors really reduce recoil?
A: Yes. Most shooters experience 20–40% less recoil, depending on the caliber and silencer design.
Q2: Does a suppressor reduce accuracy?
A: No. It usually improves consistency once the firearm is zeroed with the suppressor attached.
Q3: Do suppressors reduce muzzle rise?
A: Yes. By containing gas expansion, suppressors dramatically cut muzzle flip, especially noticeable in semi-autos.
Q4: Are suppressors better than muzzle brakes?
A: Suppressors reduce both sound and recoil. Muzzle brakes only handle recoil and are much louder.
Q5: How does a suppressor reduce recoil physically?
A: The baffle stack traps and cools combustion gases, spreading energy over a longer duration to minimize backward thrust.

So has Canik. But they don’t make them. Otter Creek makes them. So, good stuff.

Re: SA Heatseeker pistol
A good brake is so much more effective in reducing recoil than a can, it is not even worth comparing.
My XP's started in the 80's-90's at 14", 15" and 15.75"
Then I jumped to 18" for awhile.
Some of those were dedicated comp rigs. I still have some of those.
Then, I started coming back down to 17" and under.
All of my newer specialty pistols are from 13.5" to 15.9"
Kind of a full circle kind of thing.
