Ernie has some rear grip BA SPs that I’d personally draw the line on as being name sake only and stupid. But, he likes and uses them.
That’s where I draw the line and tease him to where I can just fold my stocks and call them pistols. I personally think there is a point where making a point becomes counter productive and ridiculous.
Everyone has to draw their own line in the sand. I’m vocal about mine. On occasion. Ha!!![]()

Re: SA Heatseeker pistol
One of the milder 6mm offerings would be more interesting to me. But I understand why they went with .308 since they already have the rifle variant in.308.
Re: SA Heatseeker pistol
I would be more interested in something maybe not .308 as well. Which is why I was interested in this in the first place. So I could turn my existing .308 BA SP into maybe a .25 CM.

You know what round would be really appealing in this gun? Wanna... take a guess????

Seems to me the path of exploration for this sort of thing would be in the PPC and BR general family of cases, probably with the quicker-burning rifle powders like 4227 to get the speeds up as much as possible in the shorter tubes.
The Creedmoors might be advantageous because everybody's too cheap and/or lazy to make an action other than .308 length (which I regard as too short for the .308, thanks to the U.S. military's shortsighted attachment to 150 grain bullets), but the CM's sort of address the VLD-length-bullet-in-.308-action problem.
7mm CM maybe?

I was thinking 6mm CM. But that's because I already load it.

Varget even in short barrels works great in the 6mm BR, 6 BRA, 6 Dasher, and the 6GT.Bigslug wrote: ↑Fri Apr 24, 2026 8:31 pm Seems to me the path of exploration for this sort of thing would be in the PPC and BR general family of cases, probably with the quicker-burning rifle powders like 4227 to get the speeds up as much as possible in the shorter tubes.

Of course, other powders work.
When I asked Tom Jacobs what he thought was the best powder for the 6GT, his response was, "Varget, Varget, Varget."
Varget was already my go to powder for my 14" 6 BR, as well as my center-grip 6 Dasher.
Personally, I don't feel handicapped with a 308 Win 168 grain bullet in a short action 700 platform.
If I am shooting F-TR, it's a single shot and throated for 180's to the 200 weight VLD's.
What powder do I use for my 200 grain Berger in my 308 Rifle? VARGET.
Powder I use in my 15.75" 308 Win? Varget and H-4895
I don't buy into faster powders for short barrels. I use the same powders the rifle boys use.

I'm loving the 25 Creed (15-15.9" barrel) ballistics with 134M's.

If you ever go to a sub 16" barrel in 6 Creed, I can give you some good data with both reloads and factory ammo.

It’s a conspiracy. Varget hates me.

In Short Action cartridges, my two most used powders is H-4350 and Varget.

We really don't talk about powder that much.

I like and use H-4895 as well.
But it doesn’t get as much use as some other powders
