So I’m not allowed to go out unsupervised anymore…

It has the rattles, scratches, scrapes and new parts to prove it. No pavement princes here!Wambli Ska wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2026 9:00 pm Now THAT is a purposely built Jeep°IIIII°

Re: So I’m not allowed to go out unsupervised anymore…
To tell the truth I’d be perfectly happy with a short base two door. But I hardly ever go out alone. It’s usually wife and dog or a bunch of other folks that jump at the chance of heading out to nowhere in particular like my son-in-law, daughter, son, oldest granddaughter and soon the newest descendant that’s due in two weeks.

Add guns, ammo, outdoor gear, food, water, more guns, target stands…. And soon I have a full load. Later in life I might migrate to a smaller vehicle, but with horses in the near future I doubt that’s anytime soon. I need the towing capacity (7,700 lbs on this one) and room for hay, feed, saddles and camping gear……….

I’ve gotten exactly 3 ducks since I’ve owned it. I found the nearest jeep and re-ducked. It seems all the “pretty “ jeeps get ducked and I get “you need to accessorize your jeep” my reply is usually “nope, I but gas and parts when I break them”

Took her out today with wife and dog. Was running twice the speed of my old rig at HALF the bumps!!! My wife said if she had know this she would have sent me shopping two years ago…. The seal of approval was at the end of our run she looked at me and said “My boobs don’t hurt!”. So wife approved!

Thanks! I ran a trail that I’m very familiar with so I could objectively judge this rig against the last one. Felt like someone ironed the trail flat.

My buddy has "built" short wheelbase Wrangler, and another has an even more built CJ. Awesome rigs, but. . .as I learned when I had my old Toyota FJ-40, there's really no place to put much of anything in them. Great for "getting there", but you'll be living a pretty Spartan existence once you do. I agonized over 5-ft bed Tacoma vs. 6-ft bed Tacoma for quite a while, and have had it repeatedly reinforced that buying the 5-footer was the right choice. . . but the Snug-Top has been rather packed to the gills when doing 2-man, 3-day outings. Got nine feet of Prinsu roof-rack covering camper to cab that I haven't yet had to lean on much, but space is surely at a premium when you keep the space between the rubber small.Wambli Ska wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2026 9:10 pm To tell the truth I’d be perfectly happy with a short base two door. . .
Your dog approves of the truck, so you would seem to be solid.

No, I just eliminated the "They're sore, no touching" part. And in any case I always tell my wife, even if ONE ride is broken, that doesn't mean we get to close the amusement park...Chiro1989 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 26, 2026 7:07 pmSo you eliminated the post offroading sore boob massage? And your post holds a whole lot of truth. My first two Jeeps were two doors and I LOVED them. Then I grudgingly moved to a 4 door JKU for my third Jeep and in less than a week I totally reprogramed my mind because I feel in LOVE with the added space and nicer ride. It was the first Jeep my wife did not mind going on long rides in. Then the Gladiators came into my life, and now I won't look back. With a growing family, everyone wants to go in my Jeep wherever we go anywhere and that truck bed gets a LOT more use than even I anticipated.

Nice!!! and, yes, AMAZING what a difference they make!!! To upgrade my old Gladiator to these new shocks would have been a 4 figure endeavor plus labor. The rear locker was another chunk of change. When I started adding up everything I wanted to upgrade the price tag exceeded my idea of a prudent investment in a 3 year old car.
All I have to do with this one, and there is NO rush, is go to 34-35" new generation Wildpeaks when I trash the factory 33s. Everything else is perfect for my needs.

Re: So I’m not allowed to go out unsupervised anymore…
Actually that hat has some history to it. When my daughter joined the USAF I was hopping she'd get a nice quiet job with few deployments... But that's not in her nature. After Tech School she called me to very proudly announce she was now part of AFSOC and got to wear the cool SF uniform. It was very cool and more than a small sense of pride to watch my 5'3" 110 lb little girl walk with a badazz swagger when we went to the BX. Anyway, she spent more than half of her 10 year hitch deployed in really bad places keeping AC-130 Talons flying, and her husband spent 16 years as an AFSOC Pilot and has several Purple Hearts. So much for AF guys not getting shot at...
The first time I went to visit her at her base she gifted me this hat and Ive been proudly wearing it celebrating their service for over 15 years now. It helped cover all the grey hairs I got from not having a clue where she was for months at a time.

Nice jeep! It should definitely be able to handle whatever you throw it into, and do it in comfort. I'd be terrified to go out in the desert too far, alone. I watched too many episodes of "I shouldn't be alive." Great show btw.
I'm sure they've changed since when I had to test drive some customer vehicles, but the Jeep Wranglers with even the slightest lift kit used to be almost undriveable. They would have bump steer and wonder all over the place. I never knew how those people got used to it.
And @CPJ, I'm seriously surprised you haven't 3d printed any of these

Re: So I’m not allowed to go out unsupervised anymore…
Just like kitchen gunsmiths butchering guns too many folks feel wrenching on a Jeep is “easy.” So they go at it not understanding a whole lot of the concept that if you touch one domino ALL of them start wiggling. My last 2 door got a professionally installed 2” quality lift and I was running 33” BFGs which were perfect for that size Jeep. Actually looked a whole lot like Elk creeks except in Patriot blue. I put a lot of trouble free on and off road miles in that Jeep and it never got me stranded. When I finally traded it in. Got more than I paid for it as a trade-in and the young sales guy that took it in bought it for himself.Justsomedude wrote: ↑Mon Apr 27, 2026 12:11 am Nice jeep! And yes going to the real desert isn’t for everyone. Folks die around here all the time and they constantly have to rescue folks even from Red Rock which is a short drive away from the city.
Re: So I’m not allowed to go out unsupervised anymore…
My TJ has 4” lift under it and it’s running 33’s. I’ve taken it to Montana (550 miles one way) a few times. It will track perfectly down the road at 75 miles an hour just fine. Making sure it’s done right is where it is.
