After spending a lot of money over the years on MANY types of cellular phone mounts for my Jeeps and getting very tired of searching for my phone after the phone/mount falls off from a bump on the road or trail, I was recommended this company by folks on the Jeep Forums.

Their stuff is fantastic!!! It's an American Company based in Ohio and they started with Jeep dash months for phones that would hold up to heavy off-roading. They have since grown exponentially based on quality of their products and now offer systems for types of trucks and other vehicles and for just about any type of device you'd need to mount to your car. I've been running their phone and tablet mount for about a year and when I put my devices in their holders they will STAY in place through anything I put them through. Everything is machine aluminum and carbon fiber, and considering what you're getting their prices are very reasonable. Their new system works with a Picattiny rail. How cool is that!

My new stuff should be here in a few days and I'll post a picture of the setup. In the meantime do yourself a favor and check their website out. HIGHLY recommended.

Depends on the needs. I wouldn’t fret it in a car, but on a motorcycle you want one that won’t launch your phone or vibrate it to death. Which is why I just bought a cheap CarPlay screen and keep my phone in me pockets.
And if they were US made they would be 5 times the cost.

Yep, different needs for different applications. Off roading is a bit less stress-inducing than a motorcycle, but your phone ejecting itself from its mount is a legit safety issue.

Side note, DO NOT mount a modern phone to your handlebars on a motorcycle. The vibration will, best case, trash the camera (it uses a magnet and tiny gears to adjust focus). Our resident French Model has the right idea. A Garmin unit or Apple Carplay stand alone unit is the answer.

Phone could leave a bike in almost any situation. If a phone leaves a jeep in an off road situation, the phone probably isn’t your main concern.

I only bought the rail since I have the phone charger and a tablet holder already. My new car has a big 12” screen and wireless CarPlay, the old one had CarPlay too but the phone had to be plugged in through the USB port.

I like multiple screens since I can then run different apps on each one like OnX Off-road on my iPad. And I hate having my phone in my pocket so when I get in the car I just slap it on the magnetic changer and that’s where it stays.

That is true. But it is not the leaving that is my main concern, it's the annoying dropping out of cradles and under a seat at the most inappropriate times or even worse, mounting solutions that don't stay in place so you end up with a holder that you are constantly adjusting. Plastic is notoriously slick so it's an ongoing problem off-road. These units lock into place and they STAY there.

Not everyone needs this level of hold but for the ones that do, these guys are in the "buy right, cry once" category...

I bought a nice handlebar phone mount for my Ducati Monster. The pivot portion of it narrows down pretty thin and is made of plastic. It gave me the willies everytime I would go out riding and see my phone shaking around so I finally made a new pivot out of steel.

So why steel? Seems like most of the high end stuff I've seen commercially is made of aluminum and I have not really thought about it but I think steel seems to be generally more "slick" when machined as opposed to aluminum having more of a grab in those adjustable pivot points (the little balls that have become the standard).

I'm not questioning your choice, just a question that popped up in my head when I read your post. Keeping the discussion on the same materials aspect, I never trust plastic because you can NOT tighten those pivot points enough to have a completely stable position, especially when you live in the desert and the car internal temperatures get to Hades levels every time you park. My upgrade is a reaction to ongoing frustration of ending up with a phone or tablet that is constantly slipping out of the position I adjusted it to, even while driving around town.

Machined surfaces are slick, no matter what. Aluminum is a bit more grabby being softer, but being anodized as most balls are adds a bit of a “rough” texture. But not enough to matter in this application. But even steel on steel with a mirror finish will grab like the special needs kid grabbing the class hamster. It’s all about surface area. Two flat surfaces together will have more surface area than a textured (negative texture, like tire treads) surface will.
Which is why race cars run slicks.

I know steel and its properties way more than I know aluminum and its tempering. I did it more out of playing it safe. I didnt want to end up inadvertently using something that would be fragile for the application.
