All in fun. It was a great hunt. What’s a little ball busting and creative License?
Yes. You got a good pair of binos. Glad for you.

Had to sight in my .300 with the thermal. So as a skill building exercise (that’s what he calls gay poop) the garden gnome hops on my back. All snuggly like. I wasn’t phased. He tried multiple things to get me to break my concentration. I was a stone! A marble statue.

Until he said “does it thrust when I laugh?”

That got me.

You were very comfortable with it. And performed well.

Zee wrote: Fri May 15, 2026 10:45 pm Joe was coming down last weekend for a management axis and pigs. Little be o own to me, there was a stow away. Chris surprised me by showing up as well. A pleasant surprise. In a morbid way.
Goal for the weekend was hunting, shooting, and chilling. We accomplished that and more.
They arrived Thursday afternoon and we had Joes axis by that evening. A nice young buck as we had too many.
IMG_1160.jpegIMG_1153.jpegIMG_1167.jpegIMG_1175.jpeg
It turned out to be an exciting hunt. Unplanned in how it played out.
Chris was to then drive up to the house on the hill. To provide “overwatch” for us and let us know when and where the axis started moving and where they went.
Well, some overwatch he was!! About 30min into out stand, the neighbor rancher pulled up in his Kawasaki Mule to turn the irrigation off. No heads up to us at the well. Overwatch didn’t even see him. Joe and I were tucked in hiding between the fuel tank and the engine. It’s VERY loud when running. We couldn’t hear anything but the engine. First notice we have is when an old man walks next to us at 5 feet!! Unaware we are there. He shuts down the engine with us right behind us. Walks over and shuts off the drip oil. Turns around and there we are with a rifle on a tripod pointing out into the pasture. Me looking over Joes back. He jumps in fright! Then laughs. I whisper we are after an axis. He whispers he owes me on and he’s sorry. Drives off. And our overwatch never knew he was even there!!!
Fail!!
Anyway!!! The axis finally move. And our overwatch has no clue. They are too far away and obscured by trees. Joe and I hatch a plan to observe and leapfrog close to them using trees as cover. We execute a perfect African stalk. Taking turns duck walking across the pasture with trees between us when they weren’t looking. We finally reach our target cover. I think it was 165yrds, but I can’t remember. How makes a perfect platform. Sitting off a tripod and shoots the buck. He doesn’t react. Takes a few steps forward. Then turns and takes a few step back. Falls over done. With a suppressor, the other bucks with him have no clue what happened. They just walk off.
Our Overwatch didn’t even see us stalk.
Job opportunity……….anyone want an Overwatch job? Hiring now. 😎
This story is Precious!
Smiling and laughing the whole way through.
Congrats Joe!

While I’ve never been a raving 1911 fan, I never thought I’d say I prefer a Glock over a 1911. Granted this was a 2011, a nice Springfield Prodigy. But yeah. It’s not for me. Has a dumb grip angle. 😬

Joe ordered the wrong plate, so we couldn’t mount his red dot.
Pistols without red dots are GAY. Had it been properly outfitted, I would have liked it better. But still preferred the Glock.

I threw up a little in my mouth posting that.

Best BBQ I’ve had was in San Antonio. Two Brothers. Brisket, pulled pork, sausage, slaw. Ho Lee CRAP. Had some good pizza. Found, ON OUR OWN, a great Mexican place. Found my new big booty Latina wife down there, except she just doesn’t know it yet. I say on our own because our local guide only speaks in grunts and has basically no taste in food. Totally off his radar. But, we’ve since fired him as the local attraction guy. Hired a sexy redhead for that role.

Ok, fine!
I’m jacking with Chris. He did great. In both his shooting and hunting. Not to mention the fact that every time he comes down, he fixes stuff at the ranch far above my pay grade. Generous and creative. Smartass and will give the shirt off his back.
Can’t cook meat for poop. But, we all have faults.

Seriously, Chris is a good dude. I’m just ragging on him.

Feel better, ya pansy?

That was the best BBQ I’ve ever had. Thanks to Joe for finding the place in SA. I’ve lived here for decades and never heard of it. Little bougie place by the SA airport. Nice set up, atmosphere, and more food than you can walk away with in your belly.

Give you the shirt off my back? Hell I gave the pants off my ass!
Believe you said the rabbit (made of meat) was excellent, the heart (sort of made of meat) was excellent, the testicles (made of axis balls) were excellent. And the axis backstrap was excellent. Some portions were above cold rare, but that’s a you problem. I mean, I could have shaken some rib rub on it as soon as you sliced it off the body and you would have gnawed on it if I let you.

Seriously folks, it was an awesome time. Just need thick skin to attend. Check your feelers at the door. It’s an equal opportunity ball buster. Combined with great hunting. Great shooting. And great food. Along with McGuiver fabricating and ranch chores.

The JD mobile elevated shooting rear. (Yes. Yes I DO have GREAT ideas)
Unfortunately for us, the axis didn’t want any part of the Sharps.

Careful what you ask for. The front gate is a long ways away for a “Vision Quest”.

That’s a mile down and back to reflect on what you screwed up.
