First range trip with my grandsons

Post by 12th Man »

Yesterday my oldest son and I took my seven and nine year old grandsons to the range today. This was actually a test run to see if they were big enough to go on a youth ram hunt this fall. Both have been shooting .22's at the ranch but never a scoped rifle. We brought my suppressed 300 BO to shoot at 50-yards. After the first trigger pull, my seven year old grandson said I'm done. He did not enjoy it though he did shoot one more time. He'll probably need another year or two.

Now my nine year old grandson loved it. A bit more age and size over his brother. We need to work on the basics, safety and techniques more. However, for his first time he did great. This fall may just be a grandpa/grandson ram hunt.

Great way to spend a morning!

Distance is not an issue, but the wind can make it interesting!

That is what it's all about, passing on the passion and tradition. I have 7 and 9 year old granddaughters who so far are enjoying a BB gun in the basement but have not felt ready for a range trip yet. That day will come and I can't wait.

That’s awesome! Can’t think of a better center fire a suppressed 300 for getting them used to shooting! Good man!
