Another new food crossed off the bucket list.

Post by Wambli Ska »

Tried Escamiles today. Basically the eggs/larvae of a type of ant in Mexico. They call it Mexican caviar and it goes back to the Aztecs. Makes a hell of a taco, it was delicious! If you ever have a chance I highly recommend it. Yes my guacamole was loaded with chapulines (grasshoppers) too 😁

I have a policy that if it’s not going to kill me I’ll eat anything at least once. Then I’ll decide if I’ll try it again. This was freaking delicious.

Goat cheese is not my favorite but it has its place. My wife stuffs chicken breasts with it and it’s not bad. I’d never put it on a cracker and eat it.

Beef liver is also not a favorite, but turn liver into pâté, Liverwurst or Foie Gras and I’m all in.

They have a nice smoky flavor and a good crunch and they are ground up so they look more like a spice that a bug.

The only thing that should crunch in my guacamole is the tortilla chips I’m dipping in it. 100% a texture thing.

I’ve had that and it’s AMAZING!!! Try a drizzle of pesto on it.

Actually I go back and forth on it. I like my guacamole with and without the grasshoppers. To me there’s no wrong answer.

One more "food" for the bucket list:

Excerpt from this morning's Revolver.news:

"Researchers have figured out a way to use genetically engineered microbes to break down certain kinds of plastics and turn them into ingredients to make little 3D-printed cookies. Doesn’t that sound yummy? A little cookie made out of some guy’s old water bottle.
This is being pitched as a possible two-for-one solution to plastic waste and future food shortages."

The World Economic Forum declared agriculture a new taboo a couple years ago. We are already seeing Europe ban large scale farming. Expect agricultural substitutes to continue, insects, now genetically engineered plastic waste, and coming soon soylent green. Dont be deceived it aint made from soybeans.

There’s nothing worse than liver.
I used to LOVE Boudin sausage. Pork, rice, and……liver. At the time I LIKED IT, I didn’t know it had liver in it. Couldn’t really taste it. Then I googled it one night while having som, cause I considered making it. Saw it had liver. Then the next bite, I could taste the liver.
In my head? Yep. Don’t care. I could recognize the liver once I knew it was there.

Yep, our acceptance or rejection of what constitutes “food” or even what is considered “delicious” is usually a mix of culture and mental preconceptions. For years I hated Oat Milk even after I had it, because when I first tasted it my brain already hated it since it was “vegan” and I was ready to compare it to actual milk, which it is NOT!

Then I questioned myself, since I love oatmeal what was my real problem with it? I worked to wipe my brain clean and try again and if the label had originally said liquid oatmeal I would have gotten here easier. Added a little vanilla, a pinch of salt and sugar to it and damn!!! Breakfast in a glass 😎

I agree, mostly. But liver is **** disgusting regardless of preconceptions. 🤣

Hell, I tried an Impossible Whopper at Burger King. Didn’t care that it was vegan “meat”. Not sure what it was made from, but tossed in with the rest of the burger it was decent. IF you didn’t know it was ground up dirt, leaves, and soybean buttholes, you’d think it was a real whopper. I’ve had worse real burgers. It basically had the same calories and fat etc as real meat, it just….wasnt meat to satisfy folks who believe cows are pets.
