Glock "Gas Pedal", thoughts?
I don't want to casually dismiss it because on the surface it seems like a good idea, but I'm unwilling to drop over $70 shipped for an experiment that for the reasons below will probably fail for me. But, I'm curious since I have not heard anything abut them here, does anyone use or has tested this?
My first thought is that it's going to be like finger grooves. It will fit some but not everyone, including me. Just a quick eyeballing the pics of the product vs. my actual grip on the 43X/48 frame shows me my grip is very high and my left thumb pad is way further front than the "gas pedal" would allow and I don't think I want to change that since it works great for me. But I'm interested in other's perspective and I think for some shooters, especially folks with a weaker grip strength (age, medical conditions, limited training or range time?), it might be a useful aid.
So what say ye?

Where my thumb goes on my grip
Where I'd need to back to if I out in a "pedal"
Re: Glock "Gas Pedal", thoughts?
Not tried one, but would like to.
Does it interfere with the holster?

The website of the parts maker shows quite a few holster makers that make suitable Kydex.

Re: Glock "Gas Pedal", thoughts?
My interest stems from the fact that I basically wrote off the first 43 I bought years ago when they first came out as "hard to shoot". I then rebuilt her into a Franken43X by taking the slide and slapping it on to a 48 Frame I bought online throwing the original 43 frame into a drawer and forgetting all about it. That gun has run flawlessly from day one for thousands of rounds and I laughingly call it my pre-43X. I carried it for quite a while and it only got semi-retired after I bought the 48 and mounted the Holosun EPS on it and then THAT became my EDC.
So now I have the 43X COA that will become my main EDC, a 48 that will be sold (the EPS is being transferred to my wife's P365) because I can't see why I'd carry it ever again and the 43X Frankengun will have the slide re-matched to it's original 43 frame and I'll be installing the Shield Arms mag catch and running their excellent 10 round mags in it so that will be my "little" gun that will replace my Kahr PM9 which is now my "go get the mail gun". Damn that was exhausting just typing it.
BUT, I remember that little 43 was pretty jumpy in my hands so I've been wondering about using one of these on that gun. Again I'm not sure it will work with my grip but we will see where this takes us.

Newest toy has a gas pedal but it’s a .22 so recoil mitigation is probably not relevant

Well, interested in your feedback when you do.
Re: Glock "Gas Pedal", thoughts?
One recent bit of coaching from a local instructor is to keep the forward thumb (support hand) higher than the rear thumb to better control the muzzle rise. That device may help? I havent seen it installed.

Re: Glock "Gas Pedal", thoughts?
I'm really comfortable now with the 48 and soon with the 43X as a carry gun and I REALLY don't "need" this. But as always, I'm looking at ANYTHING that will give me an edge. The Staccato is a VERY nice gun but I do NOT like ported guns for carry. You don't always get to shoot from a classic stance with the gun way out there, and I only want hot gases and debris going ONE way and that's away from me.

SIG now has one for the P365 but again I feel like it's too far back for me.

Re: Glock "Gas Pedal", thoughts?
I personally don't feel a need for gas pedals, for one simple reason: the way my shooting has evolved I care less and less about how much the muzzle flips off target, so long as my index and target focus are good enough that the gun returns to target.

Something interesting I have heard from a few shooters who use gas pedals is you shouldn't be putting a lot of pressure on them. IE your thumb should basically be a backstop for the gas pedal.
Your mileage may vary.

The current fad seems to be round count and any way to get them out of the barrel faster. OK, that's fine, but as with all things that tend to get overworked, we want to ask the question "What is this tool actually FOR?", and the answer to that is "Concealed carry".
What it does to the recoil characteristics are going to be secondary in my mind to adding a bulge, blob, or indeed this "edge" you speak of to what used to be a nice, flat gun suitable for IWB carry that stands to dig into your side and make the gun thicker.
Another option: bolt a Streamlight TLR-7 Sub to your G48. Not nearly as protrudy as these purpose-built gas pedals, you can use the top edge of it in the same way, and it puts a little mass up front to help with the snap. And now you've got a light, so you can actually SEE what you're trying to shoot quickly.

So basically you’re suggesting that a small tab that sticks out maybe 1/3” is a hindrance to concealment but hanging a light on a gun that I specifically picked because the end that goes into my junk carrier area is smaller than what I carry today is THE solution? Hummmmmmmmm, hard pass.Bigslug wrote: ↑Fri Sep 25, 2026 3:45 amWambli Ska wrote: ↑Thu Sep 24, 2026 11:22 pm But as always, I'm looking at ANYTHING that will give me an edge.

And while on the topic after years of consideration and mental games the ONLY light I need on any gun is the one I keep on my HD 9mm braced pistol. I just can’t see any scenarios for ME that would require a light on my CC EDC.

And getting as many rounds accurately on target as fast as possible is not a fad, it's good execution of justified deadly force. In the old days we hit a guy with a single .45 slug and assumed he'd be falling down dead as in every movie (and war story) ever filmed/heard. We now know better, so the round barrage to the appropriate parts of the anatomy of the BG(s) ends when HE/THEM decides the fight is over. And anything that keeps the tiny red dot centered and on target in my little glass window while doing so is a big plus. SD is a game of fractions of a second.Bigslug wrote: ↑Fri Sep 25, 2026 3:45 amWambli Ska wrote: ↑Thu Sep 24, 2026 11:22 pm But as always, I'm looking at ANYTHING that will give me an edge.

Yea... BUT, what if you could get to the point that that muzzle flip is minimal or almost non-existent? I think that would be helpful especially when engaging multiple targets no?shotgunshooter3 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 25, 2026 3:01 am I personally don't feel a need for gas pedals, for one simple reason: the way my shooting has evolved I care less and less about how much the muzzle flips off target, so long as my index and target focus are good enough that the gun returns to target.

I find that interesting and would like to know why? The way I grip a handgun my left hand thumb is putting what I consider to be a LOT of pressure against the frame so if I screw up and jerk that trigger, that thumb will counteract my trigger finger "push" and not allow or at least minimize any barrel movement down and left. FOR ME, that works especially well with the smaller guns that are muzzle light and have a fair amount of trigger travel like Glocks, as opposed to let's say a 1911.
For example my Wilson Combat with a 3.5 super crisp trigger with a very short reset. If I'm pulling shots down and left on that gun it's not the trigger fault, it's my whole strong hand tightening up on the grip in the process of pressing the trigger, easy fix. On a Glock I can have a nice grip and because of the trigger I can screw up the actual trigger press and push the whole muzzle left and down in the process. I hope I explained that Ok, and it might just be the way I shoot but anyway that's what I'm dealing with.
Re: Glock "Gas Pedal", thoughts?
I think it’s another gimmick and a crutch like other stuff. If grip and support hand do not move a sloppy trigger doesnt much matter. Get the grip and support hand positions wired to muscle memory and you are good. Yea i know easier said than done particularly when moving from one gun to another. If I shoot the 1911s then move to the ruger slabside ill jerk the trigger and drop the muzzle for the first too many rounds. Im working on that. The full size 9mm 1911 is stable enough the shorter 45 is more difficult.
No i did not buy a Staccato and there are no dots on the 1911s.

Re: Glock "Gas Pedal", thoughts?
I’ve learned over the years that today’s gimmick is tomorrow’s essential. At one point or another night/FO sights, lights mounted on guns, RDSs, Plastic guns, pistol caliber carbines and braced pistols, Kydex holsters…. Were all considered gimmicks. This one kind of makes sense to me and since I won’t do a comp on a carry gun why not put that extra thumb to work harder.
It might turn out to be a nothing burger. But I’ll give it a shot. Might try to rig something temporary on my Frankengun 43X to to a POC run and see how it goes.

Failing anything else, it's a cheap experiment and doesn't permanently modify your gun. Definitely more significant than the silly "accelerator cuts" that show up on some guns.

Two to the chest, one to the head, how many shots do you need? I am not changing my drill with extraneous stuff. Better light and sights to see what I am shooting at, fine, Better trigger, fine.
