Looks greatWambli Ska wrote: ↑Fri Sep 18, 2026 1:26 am I’m going to keep it simple. I’ll find a set of Ruger factory grips with nice wood (their out there) or get a nice set of Black Walnut. But for now I’ll clean up and wax the grips that came with it.
What would you and him think of that light colored set I picked up ?
I'd contribute to the project if deemed a cool addition
I think it would wickedly pop

That is super generous of you! But not surprising because that’s who you are. They are beautiful grips and I’m sure they would look awesome on this gun. He liked things simple so I’m sure he’d approve. I’ll PM you..JunkCollector wrote: ↑Sat Sep 19, 2026 12:00 pmLooks greatWambli Ska wrote: ↑Fri Sep 18, 2026 1:26 am I’m going to keep it simple. Re: Ruger BH 41 Mag V 1.5
So we are done for now...
Thanks to Paul and his usual generosity the gun is now outfitted with FINE!!! grips. I wish I knew the maker of these I'd buy 5 more pairs. They are absolutely Mycarta and they are HARD!!! Fitting SA grips is not for the inpatient, sloppy or faint hearted. One slip and you'll take too much material out and end up with really ugly gaps/holes that are nearly impossible to disguise. Properly fitted you'll end up with grips that basically need a whack with a rubber mallet to take off.
I've been working slowly for short periods of time for two days using a fine file and the proper bit for the stud hole inserted into a screwdriver instead of the drill. Way better way to "feel" how much material is being removed. It's a matter of removing C hairs until you have a perfect fit and these are now there.
The last few things I need to do are changing the base pin latch for a stainless one to match the other pieces (ordered and on its way). Then it will be taken apart again, the internals polished and a new set of springs, maybe a little judicious tuning of the trigger. We'll end up with a fine working field gun.
What my SIL knew about horses could fit on the tip of a pin, but he was really interested in learning how to ride because my daughter is an accomplished rider and she misses it, and both of them wanted the kids to grow with horses. We also talked about doing a mounted Elk hunt in Montana or Wyoming in a year or two after he became better on a saddle. This was going to be his side arm...
We never got to those things but maybe someday I can take his gun along on that adventure while I'm the caregiver, before I pass it along to one of the G'kids.
Anyway, here she is.

Well done my friend, very well done

Not liking those grips on that gun. The tri coloration is not melding for me. Grips look like baby crap. Clash with the stainless.

Well done Sir.
Your grandkids and your daughter will cherish your efforts.

Re: Ruger BH 41 Mag V 1.5
I hope someday they remember dad and I fondly. I’ve always been big on heirlooms and legacy and I’m starting early on those. My son and daughter are already getting things from mom and I that are significant to us. The grandkids will soon do too….
My older granddaughter is 15 so I make a point of making a lot of great memories with her. The little guys, I worry that they are so young and how long will I be around in their lives. But It’s now my job to keep his memory alive for them and make some of my own.

I think it’s well established that you and I don’t exactly share our taste in grips for handguns
The grips show more orange on the pics than up close. In person the color is more of an old aged Ivory. Dark enough to stand out from the stainless and light enough to show off the blue. At least in my view. And just as important, these things are tough. The kind of material you want in a hand boomer.
Re: Ruger BH 41 Mag V 1.5
Love the gun. That color scheme of blue/stainless/baby poop just doesn’t jive.
Ha!

That’s just because your mom always told you that you were. She was being………nice.
