Between this and the CMP M14, my gun budget is spoken for for 2027. "Shooter" M1917's have become much harder to fund and rarely below $1K these days.
ALSO, do my eyes deceive me or is that Model 22 a close facsimile of the Indiana Jones revolver?

Looks that way to me. And since we may be ‘Indiana Jones-ing’ scimitar waving crazies in the streets, we might as well have the right kitshotgunshooter3 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 27, 2026 3:16 pm Between this and the CMP M14, my gun budget is spoken for for 2027. I would love either. But the price!!!

Yeah, a 22 would be sweet in 45 colt!

Yep! Except for grips which are impossible to find. :junkcollector:shotgunshooter3 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 27, 2026 3:16 pm Between this and the CMP M14, my gun budget is spoken for for 2027. "Shooter" M1917's have become much harder to fund and rarely below $1K these days.

I may have to get myself a Christmas present…
Re: S&W Reintroducing the 1917 and Model 22
Big fat…meh.
I think old beat up ones are cool as hell. Shiny and new? Nope. Nada. They just don’t look “right”. Especially the grips. The wood looks like “walnut stained hardwood”, rather than proper use, sweat and human grease soaked in.

Originals are out there, mine has a hitch in the action, I have been meaning to contact S&W and see what can be done, my local smith cleaned it up a bit but it hangs up when cocking single action and in double action

Needs to be in .455 Webley, but yes. I have the dies. I have the brass. I have the molds. LET'S GO!!!shotgunshooter3 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 27, 2026 3:16 pm ALSO, do my eyes deceive me or is that Model 22 a close facsimile of the Indiana Jones revolver?
I'd probably prefer that in .44, but .45C? It'll do.
WWJMBD?

Years back I got my hands on a Model 22 Thunder Ranch Special...couldn't afford it then and they were scarce as hens teeth then...impossible now...i would go for that 22 in a heartbeat and wear it out carrying it...
The 1917 would be something too

Re: S&W Reintroducing the 1917 and Model 22
I just took another look and it doesn’t come in .45acp or .45 Colt as separate offerings. It’s designed to fire .45acp with clips, AND 45 Colt out of the same cylinder!!! I LIKE that!shotgunshooter3 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 27, 2026 3:16 pm Between this and the CMP M14, my gun budget is spoken for for 2027. Now it’s getting a much harder look from me.

There are two guns. The main movie gun (famous sword scene) was originally chambered in Webley but the movie armorers converted it to fire .45 Colt movie blanks. The one you see up close that was used in the opening scene and also when Indy was packing his suitcase is a 1917 n .45aco with a shortened 4” barrel and was chambered in .45acp. The sights on the guns are different and the new S&W gun looks like the main gun.Bigslug wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2026 2:23 amNeeds to be in .455 Webley, but yes. I have the dies. I have the brass. This is the Thunder Ranch Special....the first thing I noticed about it was that awesome retro front sight...about the size of half a nickle......

Close enough to earn a place in my movie gun collection, next to my 1895SBL that isn't 100% movie correct (newer Ruger version, wrong but better scope/rings).Wambli Ska wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2026 10:18 pm The new issue

The new model grips are HIDEOUS.

If I hadn't put together my own I would be all over this one. I too have a small movie gun collection going so it'd fit right in.shotgunshooter3 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2026 10:35 pmClose enough to earn a place in my movie gun collection, next to my 1895SBL that isn't 100% movie correct (newer Ruger version, wrong but better scope/rings).Wambli Ska wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2026 10:18 pm The new issue

That model 22 almost makes me want a 45 Colt.
