As it was astutely pointed out it’s a 45 Colt AND 45acp with clips!

Got the 45 ACP cover quite nicely so should one find it's was into my safe, unlikely, it would likely only digest 45 Colt

As much as I’d love that M22, it’s a lot of cash. I might could find a good smith to cut back the barrel of my old Brazilian for a lot less and get a similar result.

They're sort of a fail, and sort of a win.

The Second Model Hand Ejector included the .44's and .455's with checkered medallion grips pre-U.S. involvement in WW1; it got the smooth grips for the M1917; and then there was a post-WW1 period of checkering with no medallions. At some point the medallions came back.

My .44 got built on a frame with an AEF eagle head stamp that was a "leftover" from when Uncle Sam cancelled the M1917 contract.

A Model 22 SHOULDN'T have M1917 grips on it from the factory, but I'll grant that at least they're trying. Whatever. Altamont can provide.

My main point of curiosity is if it's using M1917 spec clips to shoot .45 ACP. More to the point, can you shoot .45 Auto Rim brass in it? I really dislike dicking around with moon clips, and don't really need the .45 Colt case capacity for what I'd do with it.

EDIT: The 4-screw side plate: NICE touch!

One of the videos I watched indicated 45 auto rim would not fit being to thick to function. Have to find that again.

TFB TV on the tube states the 22 will not take the auto rim.

Ok then. .45 Cowboy brass or .45C downloads. Easy enough.

Or 45 Schofield brass! Seems right smith cartridge in a smith gun.

That also occurred to me, but while no longer fashionable, a rimmed .45 Auto or the .455 Webley case would be perfect for what I'd do with it. The black powder capacity of the Schofield or Colt case isn't needed for the 600-750 fps I'd be driving the 250-ish grain Keith/Lyman 453423 to.

This here would be a combat revolver with zero intent for loads that will turn my socks into cotton puddles around my ankles when I touch it off.

Kinda fun to ponder the actual logistics of the Dr. Jones revolver: In the interwar period, Britain was still the global superpower, and for someone travelling the world (leaving red lines on the map everywhere he goes), the .455 would have been a smart call.

Gotta admit this one has my wheels turning...

ALSO, do my eyes deceive me or is that Model 22 a close facsimile of the Indiana Jones revolver?
Yep! Except for grips which are impossible to find. :junkcollector: 😎
Yeah but I'd have to move them from the 44 special he should have carried.

After WWI the .45acp was ALL over the world and plentiful. Many of those .455 guns were converted by the Brits to use clips with the .acp or the AR which was actually popular back then. Mine was one example that made the trip over there as a .455 and came back as a clip/AR gun.

Ah yes. . .British proofmarking. In one way, it's kind of like stickers on an old footlocker that's been around the world. In another way, the guns sometimes ended up looking like one of those folks who got one tattoo, and then JUST. . .COULDN'T. . . STOP!

The Brit’s are eff a g queer for stamping each cylinder. Like Elton John thinks that’s gay.
