Buying a new safe
Is Tractor Supply pretty much the best place to get a safe right now?
It’s been a long damn time since I bought or moved a safe. Any tips, suggestions, etc…?

Re: Buying a new safe
If the safe is too big for you to move on your own with a standard dolly, hire movers. It's cost me hundreds to move my safe a few times, but at least I didn't end up splattered under it like Wile E. Coyote.
I bought my safe years ago from a LGS that had a fair price and included transportation in the cost. I imagine of the big box stores, Tractor Supply is as good as any others.
This is also just me, but I followed conventional advice and bought as big as I could afford. I regret it. Knowing what I know now, and factoring in how often I tend to relocate, multiple smaller safes would have saved me time, space, money, and headaches.

SS3 is spot on. Moving a big safe is no joke. If you are where your going to stay is different. Get the big one .q I have found Tractor Supply and Academy Sports have the best prices.
I would pay the extra for delivery and set up especially if there are any stairs involved.

If you can’t move it………neither can a thief.

Re: Buying a new safe
One of the reasons I’m getting a new safe is because I don’t want to move the old one. It’s upstairs, and that is where it’s staying after I moved it up there 16 years ago.
I’m pretty sure TS includes curb delivery on new safes. It’s gonna be that last 50 yards and down a hall that will be a trick

Can you put something on the floor that will stand up to a pallet jack?
Mine came off a lift gate and we pulled it to a couple of feet of it's final place. I rocked it the rest of the way.

Re: Buying a new safe
I bought my last one from Costco. The biggest one they offer. Honestly not the most heavy duty toughest most badass safe in the world. But it’s huge and loaded up it weights a ton. A friend who is an ex-sheriff said in the end a safe is a safe if they want in they are going to get in. But very very few want to take any amount of time to open said safe. So the $800 is as good as the $2500 one.
Re: Buying a new safe
Years ago I moved a roughly 850 lb safe from the driveway inside the house using the Egyptian method. Several 1/2" PVC pipes work well. Had to build a ramp to get across the threshold.

Yeah this. Or rent a pallet Jack.

Academy has prices as low or lower than Tractor Supply, especially now when they're wanting to move last year's inventory. And a 20 buck Harbor Freight furniture dolly will move a 1000lb safe all over the house without chewing up any floors..

Rent a powered appliance or piano dolly. Lots of video's on the Youtubes..............
Re: Buying a new safe
I bought a Winchester fire-rated gun safe from TS a few months back and it was very easy. Placed the order on their website, then picked it up that weekend with the help of one of my kids from work and his brother.

Not gotten it yet. Still trying to plan where it’s going, what size, etc…
