Project gun!

Post by Elk Creek »

I stopped by a shop today that I don’t normally go to. It’s more of a tactical shop. Anyway, I found a very well used, neglected and filthy Marlin/Glenfield model 60. I had to rescue it, it’s going to be a fun project to bring it back to life. It’s all there the magazine is there no cracked trigger guard, the bones are solid. Hell it was cheap enough, it was $75!

Good! I applaud saving any and all strays and we all know you can’t have too many .22s. Plenty of replacement parts for model 60s out there if any are needed.

Great score for $75 👍👍

Won’t be too hard, these things have the 10-22 a run for its money.

I have rescued a number of these rifles, they clean up great and are just plain fun to shoot.

Nice score

Nice. Always remember that the correct number of .22LR's to own is somewhere between "ridiculous" and "obscene".

Never did acquire a 60. Will have to hold out for one with the little squirrel impressed into the stock though.

If we are talking 100% stock rifles, I’ll take a 60 over a 10-22 any day of the week.

We now have a 3 day wait here in Colofornia so it will be next week. The store has a no pics policy. I asked and they got tired of kids coming to pose with their favorite call of duty gun!🤣

I bought a Marlin 60 in about 1974 or 1975? I think I paid $60 It came with a chinsy 4X scope. I remember it was a shooter more than a match for the 1940’s era Winchester 62a

BIIIIIIITCHIN!!!

It seems likely I'll end up with one someday, but I think it'll have to be one of those "acquisitions of Karma" that hits me with just the right sad puppy eyes. . .

It seems impossible to hope Ruger will bring back the 60, but I personally don't see it as a real competitor against the 10/22 - you either like detachable magazines and aftermarket pimp-ability, or you don't. There's plenty of room for both. But I think I and any sane rimfire junky would MUCH rather see them expand the lever line to include the 39A.

A Ruger 39a would be more than welcome! He’ll, I’d buy one! This one is so dirty the bolt closes in slow motion! 🤣

I'm kinda wanting this hypothetical 1894 Dark Series if they every get around to booting them out in .357... The ONLY thing wrong with my Martini Cadet is it's chambered for something that isn't exactly .32-20. The performance is .357, but the logistics of the round are a long way from it,

But Model 60's. . .it just seems WRONG for nobody to be making Model 60's. . .

It sure isn't an 1885 low wall either.
But nobody likes single shots anyway.
IIRC....someone wanted that BSA to go west.

Love the project gun....you I deal with....

That's not in bad shape at all. I still prefer Oxpho Blue and a paint stripping heat gun.

That’ll clean up and shoot nice, I bet. I have a 60 and a 39A. Love them both. Haven’t shot them in years. Guess I need to change that soon.

I have a Western Auto 120? in my safe. It's a rebranded Model 60.

It's also part of the reason I have no interest in getting a 10-22.

I once took one of those hardwood stocks and sanded it down to a nice slim profile and just gave it an oil finish with no stain. It turned out really nice with the plain blonde wood stock. Just a thought.
